Akron-Westfield baseball won their home district quarterfinal over Trinity Christian by a final of 14-4 in six innings on Saturday night.
The Westerner bats were a little slow to get going putting up only two runs in the first three innings. Westerner head coach Gordon Johnson says the problem wasn’t the contact made but rather where the contact was hit.
Things started to turn for the better for Akron-Westfield in the fourth and fifth innings when they put up a combined 11 runs in those two innings. Coach Johnson says his team put the ball in green space a lot more in those innings.
The real black eye for the Westerners was the top of the fifth inning. Trinity Christian sent eight hitters to the plate and scored four runs thanks in large part to three Westerner errors. Coach Johnson says the errors were just some small mistakes that his team needed to talk through better.
Coach Johnson says those errors will be worked on, and his team is looking forward to continuing their postseason run against Gehlen Catholic.
The game begins at 7:00 at Sargent Field in Akron. You can listen to the game on KLEM Radio with pregame beginning at around 6:50.
