BOMB POP SOUR
It’s National Bomb Pop Day! A local microbrewery is paying tribute to one of Wells Blue Bunny’s best-known treats. Three years ago, Ben Sitzman, the brewmaster at Wise I, thought that creating a beer with the taste of the Bomb Pop would be a great idea.
What they arrived at is called the Bomb Pop Sour. It took some experimenting to get the flavor they wanted.
Bomb Pops themselves were not part of the final recipe.
Wells Enterprises worked closely with Wise I to arrive at the Bomb Pop Sour.
It took several months to concoct the drink.
The drink is rolling out today (Thursday the 28th), and rolling out in cans Saturday.
Response to the Bomb Pop Sour has been great.
A sweet treat in a sour beer has blended well.
Sitzmann says the Bomb Pop Sour is available for a limited time.
D.S. Abernethy and James S. Merritt, of Merritt Foods, invented the Bomb Pop in 1955. Wells Dairy bought Merritt Foods – and the Bomb Pop – in 1991.
