MMCRU Basketball Drops Matchups with Lawton-Bronson in First Home Contests in Two Weeks

The MMCRU basketball teams returned home for the first time in two weeks with a couple of matches against Lawton-Bronson to end 2023.

The MMCRU girls started off the night with a tight 48-45 loss to the Eagles. It was a game that was very physical all throughout the night. That physicality meant the Royals had to fight through it which was a plus, but head coach Gillian Letsche says they can not get stuck in foul trouble.

The Royals took plenty of outside shots in the first half that would not fall consistently for them. That is when MMCRU changed up their offense to create more looks off dribble drives. Coach Letsche says the girls still need to finish the job by doing the little things better.

The loss to Lawton-Bronson was a positive in the sense that MMCRU showed physicality and toughness in a tight game. As the Royals approach the holiday break, Coach Letsche wants the girls to come back with that same attitude ready to attack the rest of the season.

MMCRU drops to 1-5 with the loss while Lawton-Bronson ups their record to 2-7 on the season.

The MMCRU boys basketball team fought through but fell in a similarly tight contest by the score of 48-46. MMCRU’s offense could not find a groove consistently enough to make some strides on the scoreboard. Head coach Cam Kuchel says all it takes is for a few shots to miss here and there, and things can go wrong.

On the bright side, the Royals played some outstanding defense that allowed them to come back from being down nine points at one point. The Royals were able to do that thanks to some tough defense that could force turnovers and alter shots. Coach Kuchel says he knows the guys will be in tough games because of their work on the defensive end.

It has been a rough couple of weeks for MMCRU after the passing of freshman teammate Boston Colling. Coach Kuchel says it will be nice for the guys to have a reset during the holiday break and come back ready to compete.

MMCRU is now 3-3 on the season while Lawton-Bronson improves to 7-2.
