Amber Alert Suspect Arrested near Remsen – Update

AMBER ALERT SUSPECT ARRESTED IN PLYMOUTH COUNTY – UPDATE – 

Area law enforcement arrested 34-year-old Brandon Duong in a field near Remsen at 8:03 p.m.
Duong surrendered after a standoff of about two and a half hours.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety says Duong took his seven-year-old biological son, Bryson Duong, from Greene Elementary School in Jefferson, Iowa.
A court order restricting Brandon Duong from having custody had been issued last December.
A state trooper spotted Duong’s 2015 black Toyota Tacoma northeast of Remsen around 4:50 p.m.and a pursuit began that reached speeds over 100 miles an hour.
The suspect’s vehicle went off the road just.before 5:30 p.m. near 160th and  Sunset, a gravel road northeast of Remsen in Plymouth County.
He was armed with a rifle and fled into a nearby field with the boy.
Law enforcement proceeded to surround the area and brought in two armored vehicles.
Duong eventually laid his rifle down and surrendered.
He and the boy were transported to a Sioux City hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries.
Brandon Duong has been charged with one count of kidnapping in the first degree and will be transferred to the Greene County Jail.
The Jefferson Police Department and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation will continue their investigation.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office adds that a perimeter was established around the section and members of the CERT Team, which consists of deputies and officers from the Plymouth County Sheriffs Office, Sioux County Sheriffs Office, Cherokee County Sheriff”s Office, Cherokee Police Department and the Le Mars Police Department were able to locate Brandon and Bryson with an armored rescue vehicle. Communication was established with the suspect from negotiators which continued for several hours. The Iowa State Patrol also responded to the scene with ah second armored rescue vehicle, which included members of the Iowa State Patrol and Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office tactical teams. Negotiators continued to communicate with Mr. Duong eventually taking him into custody at approximately 8:00 P.M. without incident or injury to either party.
Brandon Duong was transported to the Plymouth County Jail where he is currently being held on a warrant issued out of Greene Court Iowa for Violating Custody Order, a Class D Felony. Investigation is continuing and additional charges are expected.
Agencies involved in the apprehension of Mr. Duong consists of Plymouth, Woodbury, Sioux, Cherokee and O’Brien County Sheriff’s Offices, Kingsley, Hinton, Remsen, Le Mars, Cherokee and Marcus Police Departments. The Iowa State Patrol, DCI, Department of Narcotics, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Human Service,s Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms, Remsen Ambulance and Le Mars Fire Rescue.

The suspect sought in the Amber Alert Tuesday from Jefferson Iowa is in custody.

Duong was wanted after an Amber Alert was issued Tuesday afternoon for all of Iowa for the reported abduction of seven year old Bryson Duong.
The Greene County Sheriff says the boy was abducted in Jefferson, Iowa by Brandon Duong, who was driving a 2015 black Toyota Tacoma.
A state trooper spotted the vehicle on Highway 20 near Correctionville, and a pursuit began that reached speeds over 100 miles an hour.
The suspect’s vehicle went off the road just before 5:30 p.m. near 160th and Sunset, three miles east of Remsen, in Plymouth County.
He was armed with a rifle and fled into a nearby field with the boy.
Law enforcement proceeded to surround the area and brought in two armored vehicles.
Duong eventually laid his rifle down and surrendered.
