The Le Mars Community boys soccer team endured rough weather conditions and a season-opening loss to Council Bluffs AL on Tuesday night falling to the Lynx by a score of 6-3.
The Bulldogs were getting their season started but had played some scrimmages and competed in a jamboree prior to the season opener. Head coach Blake Fehringer’s message to the guys before the game was to grow as a team from the start of the game to the end of the game.
The Bulldogs got down early trailing 1-0 at the half and ultimately trailing 5-0 midway through the second half. Le Mars proceeded to score three of the next four goals to make things interesting late in the game. Coach Fehringer says the guys showed what it means to play Bulldog soccer.
All three goals for the Bulldogs came from Jovany Kabongo. He is the program’s all-time leading scorer and started his senior year off with a bang. Coach Fehringer says Kabongo draws a crowd allowing other teammates to set him up for opportunities, and his teammates did that against the Lynx.
The Bulldogs start the year 0-1 overall and in MRAC action and will continue the season on the road with a non-conference matchup at home against Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley on Thursday. Coach Fehringer says there were still some things to take away from the matchup even though the weather played a big factor in the game.
Le Mars’ matchup with Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley will be played in Le Mars on Thursday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
