The Le Mars Community baseball team lost both of their MRAC matchups with fifth-ranked Bishop Heelan on Thursday night. The Bulldogs gave up a lead late in game one to lose 11-7 and lost the second game 11-0.
In game one, the Bulldog bats finally produced some runs consistently. Things got started with a Sy Bixenman home run that plated three runs in the first inning. Le Mars rode the momentum to a 7-3 lead after five innings. Head coach Trent Eckstaine says the guys finally got some production out of the work they have put in.
Unfortunately, the momentum did not stay with Le Mars. The Bulldogs gave up some big innings allowing eight runs in the sixth inning and three big innings in the second game. Coach Eckstaine says guys were doing too much in the field, and that hurt the potential to get out of an inning sooner.
The Bulldogs will have a busy week next week with six games in a three-day span. Coach Eckstaine says disappointment happens in a long season, but the guys need to continue to show up with great effort.
Le Mars now sits at 1-13 on the season and 1-12 in the MRAC. They will host Sioux City North on Tuesday and Sioux City West on Wednesday next week in doubleheader competition in the MRAC.
