Classes were cancelled at Kingsley-Pierson Community Schools after a water main broke on Monday morning.
The break occurred at the Kingsley building, which houses the elementary and high school students. Photos circulating on social media from Kingsley-area residents and parents show substantial flooding and water damage in a band classroom, a commons space, and hallways.
***UPDATE***: Kingsley-Pierson K-12 principal Adam Brand released an open letter late on Tuesday evening, providing an update on the building and plans on how the district will return to the classroom. In the letter, Brand stated that the district’s focus would be on “safely restoring the building and ensuring students continue learning without interruption,” and that the district is planning on classes to be held tomorrow in alternate locations.
For kindergarten through 2nd grade students, classes will be held at the Catholic Faith Formation building, with transportation and access to services as normal. For 3rd and 4th grade students, classes will be held at the Pierson building, with space made available for classrooms. For high school students, online learning will begin tomorrow, with more in-person learning options planned for next week. A high school information meeting will be held tonight at 6pm at the Kingsley Community Center. Additional logistical details for elementary school learning will be shared tomorrow.
