Annual Christmas Lighted Parade moved to this weekend

Another Le Mars holiday tradition will be held this weekend, when the annual Christmas Lighted Parade takes place along Central Avenue this Saturday, December 20th.

The parade was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 6th, but was cancelled due to inclement weather. Joel Johnson, who has coordinated the parade for the past seven years, told KLEM the tradition was started in the 90’s.

Those showcasing their floats in the parade will arrive at 5pm to line-up; residents do not have to register or pay a fee to be a part of the parade. The route starts at 8th Street South and continues along Central Avenue, ending at 1st Street North. Johnson says he looks forward to seeing new and creative floats each year.

Johnson says the parade is a great way for the community to come together during the holidays.

The parade itself will start at 6pm on Saturday, December 20th; for those participating in the parade, line-up will start at 5pm.
