Swearing-in ceremony for Le Mars elected offices to be held Tuesday
A swearing-in ceremony for newly-elected city officials will be held this Tuesday at 11:30am.
The ceremony will be held inside of the Le Mars city council chambers with Judge Daniel Vakulskas set to be the presiding official. Mayor elect Rob Bixenman, city council elects Brian Bruns, Mark Sturgeon, and Derek Conyers, and Hospital Trustees elects Kelli Flack and Craig Bauerly will each take their oaths of office during the ceremony. The ceremony itself is expected to take 20 minutes to complete.
According to Iowa law, elected officials need to be sworn in prior to noon on January 2nd, 2026. The first city council meeting of the new term will take place the following Tuesday, January 6th.

American Legion to host steak dinner on New Year’s Eve
The Le Mars American Legion will host a steak dinner on New Year’s Eve, starting at 5:30pm.
Meals will be served inside Legion Hall at 110 Plymouth Street SW, or by drive-thru. The dinner includes a ribeye steak, a baked tater, veggies, and Texas toast. Those dining in will also have a salad bar and ice cream available.
The dinner will take place on Wednesday evening, from 5:30pm until 7:30pm.

Food Bank of Iowa shifts to buying chicken, rather than beef in bulk
The head of an organization that stocks food pantries in 55 Iowa counties says along with a surge in food pantry usage, her organization’s food budget has soared. Tami Nielsen started as a regional coordinator for the Food Bank of Iowa in 2016 and has been its President and C-E-O since June 1st.
Nielsen says Iowans can make about anything with a pound of ground beef, but the Food Bank of Iowa has changed its bulk buying due to the high price of beef.
The Food Bank of Iowa is one of six Feeding America food banks in the state — and the largest. It’s the main supplier for 700 food pantries in the state.
Nielsen made her comments during a recent appearance on the “Iowa Press” program on Iowa P-B-S.
