The fourth week of the Beat the Blues Challenge at the Le Mars Public Library will focus on the importance of fun and laughter.
This week, February 2nd through the 8th,  teens and adults can stop at the front desk to receive a joke packet to promote laughter. While you are in the library, you’re encouraged to  browse the collection of funny movies and joke books.
According to Mental Health America, studies show that laughing can decrease pain, promote relaxation, and reduce anxiety. Positive emotions can also decrease stress hormones and build emotional strength.
The library will also host a free Improv class on Wednesday, February 11th starting at 5:30 p.m. This introductory class will include fun games and a discussion of the four core roles of the art of improv.  This event is free, and there is no registration.
The Beat the Blues Challenge is a simple and free way for teens and adults to combat the long weeks of winter from now until March 6. Stop in the library each week to pick up challenge information and have your punch card punched. If you receive four punches, you will receive a ticket for a free movie on March 16.
