The 41st annual Women of Excellence Awards, presented by Women Aware of Siouxland, will be presented tomorrow evening, and among the 18 women nominated for the awards is Le Mars resident Shirley Kinney, who was nominated for her artistry and creativity by her two daughters, Cissy and Theresa.
Kinney had previously worked as a registered nurse at the Good Samaritan Society before retiring in 2021. She was nominated for the awards in part because of her volunteer work with the Le Mars Eagles Club for over two decades.
Kinney says that she started crocheting at a young age, and that she’s always loved the challenge of new projects.
According to Women Aware of Siouxland, “selflessness, creativity, and unwavering commitment to using her talents to serve others were the trademarks that earned Shirley a nomination for Women of Excellence.” The awards will be given tomorrow evening during the organization’s annual banquet in South Sioux City, NE.
