Local and state authorities have started an investigation into a suspicious death at a Le Mars residence, a statement from the Le Mars Police Department has confirmed.
The investigation was triggered by a welfare check conducted around 12:30pm yesterday at 420 6th Street SW in Le Mars, with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation contacted “due to the condition of the residence interior and related safety concerns.” The department also stated that no further information would be released at this time, and that there was no threat to the public related to the investigation.

“On May 14, 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m., the Le Mars Police Department responded to a request for a welfare check at 420 6th St. SW. Due to the condition of the residence interior and related safety concerns, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was contacted to assist with a suspicious death investigation.
At this time, no further information will be released. There is no threat to the public related to this investigation.
Le Mars Fire Department, Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Criminal Investigations assisted in this investigation.”
