The Last Gift to offer cemetery assistance over Memorial Day weekend

A local nonprofit organization is hosting a special Cemetery Assistance Day this Sunday to help honor and preserve those buried in the Le Mars Memorial Cemetery and Potters Field. Lynn Steckelberg of The Last Gift explained what the event is about to KLEM.

Steckelberg says Sunday’s event is intended to highlight the stories of those in the Memorial Cemetery beyond what might be stated on a headstone.

The Potters Field inside the Memorial Cemetery consists of unclaimed and unknown remains, and Steckelberg says one of the main goals of The Last Gift is to find, research, place headstones, and recognize these unmarked graves.

Members of the organization will be available between noon and 2pm on Sunday, May 24th to help locate graves and recognize the stories of those buried at the Memorial Cemetery and Potters Field.
