Sioux County Youth Fair takes place this week
The Sioux County Youth Fair kicked off over the weekend, with seven days of fun activities, youth competitions, and entertainment at the Sioux County Ag & Expo Center north of Sioux Center. Alongside the livestock shows put on by 4-H and FFA members, the fair features major events such as the Skid Loader Olympics tonight and tomorrow, Monster Arm Wrestling and a Demolition Derby tomorrow, a greased pig contest on Thursday, and the annual Sioux County Fair Dance on Friday evening.
This is the third year the fair has been based at the Ag & Expo Center, and fair marketing manager Tara Kooiker told KLEM the location’s larger space has allowed for more growth overall.
Kooiker says the weeklong fair is an annual fixture on the calendar for Sioux County residents.

Peace Run torch relay arrives in Le Mars tomorrow
The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run, the largest-ever peace torch relay in the world, will stop by Le Mars tomorrow morning on its journey across the country.
The team of torchbearers are currently on a four month, 10,000 mile long journey across the United States in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. Tomorrow’s section will take place from Sioux City up to Worthington, MN along U.S. Highway 75 and Iowa Highway 60, with the torch expected to arrive in Le Mars in the morning. The run will continue up to Minneapolis on Friday, and will conclude in New York City next month.
Since the Peace Run’s founding in 1987, more than 7 million people have participated, with the relay having traversed over 160 nations throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. The run’s official website states that the relay is “a symbol of humanity’s universal aspiration for a more peaceful world,” and that commendations have come from many world figures including Pope Francis, Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev, Mother Teresa, Olympians, state governors, city mayors, and celebrities across the world.

Board of Supervisors meeting cancelled
The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors meeting that was scheduled for today has been cancelled. The next meeting of the Board is scheduled for next Tuesday, July 21st at 9:30am inside of the Plymouth County Courthouse.
