Ottawa University of Arizona men’s golf won their third-ever Northwest Iowa National Invitational tournament championship on Tuesday in Le Mars.
The Spirit had just returned from a tournament in Florida where they finished in seventh out of the 16 teams competing. It was a quick turnaround of just a few days and head coach Brady Barrett says he was very happy with how the guys kept their focus and returned to form.
The weather was not great throughout the week, but it was not bad enough to impact play considerably. In fact, coach Barrett says he was very pleased with the conditions of the course for the two days his team was out here.
The Spirit had an up and down tournament with a great first round, an ok second round, and a better third round. Coach Barrett chalks up the great bounce back to the veteran presence his team has throughout the roster.
The Spirit were the inaugural champions of this tournament in 2019 making them a mainstay at this tournament for eight-straight seasons. Coach Barrett says the relationships formed at this tournament in particular make it one of the best tournaments in the country.
Ottawa gets to host their own tournament in Surprise coming up this following week on Monday and Tuesday, September 28 and 29.
