The Northwest Iowa National Invitational men’s golf tournament individual championship came down to the 54th and final hole where Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University sophomore Jonathan Tso sunk a birdie putt to claim the title.
This tournament opened the Eagles’ season, and it marked the second time Tso has played in Le Mars. Tso finished 53rd overall last year and played much better this year. Tso says this year was a challenge due in large part to the different weather than what he is used to golfing in.
Entering the final day, Tso was off the lead by three strokes sitting on the edge of the top-ten. He followed that up shooting a tournament record 64 on his final 18 holes. Tso says shooting a 64 was tough, but he credits his short game for helping him out.
As an underclassman, a win like this can do a lot for Tso going forward. He says this win can put him on a trajectory of success going through the rest of his sophomore season.
With this being Tso’s second time in Le Mars, he now has a good idea of how special this tournament is. He says it is a great way to open the season.
Embry-Riddle returns to Arizona for the rest of their fall schedule where they will continue on September 28-29 in Surprise at a meet hosted by Ottawa University.
