The Gehlen Catholic volleyball team went on the road to pick up a crucial War Eagle Conference victory on Tuesday night defeating South O’Brien 3-0.
For Gehlen, it was their 16th win in their last 17 matches continuing one of the hottest streaks of volleyball in recent memory. Head coach Jessie Bohnenkamp says the girls are doing a great job of taking care of their own play while not worrying about the other side.
The Gehlen offense proved its balance once again taking advantage of four different hitters that recorded at least five kills in the win. Coach Bohnenkamp says the offense is flowing well with the help of their two setters.
The Jays had to weather some big momentum swings throughout the game. Gehlen gave up a big run late in the third set before ultimately closing it out by score eight of the last nine points to secure the sweep. Coach Bohnenkamp says altering some offensive approaches helped get the girls back on the right track.
Gehlen now sits in sole possession of second place in the War Eagle Conference with the win improving to 17-5 on the season and 7-1 in the conference. The Jays have a tough non-conference test on Thursday heading to Rock Rapids to take on Central Lyon. Coach Bohnenkamp says this will be a good test for her team against a quality opponent.
Gehlen Catholic and Central Lyon will compete on Thursday, October 1 in Rock Rapids with varsity first serve set for 7:00 PM.
