Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird talks cold cases, scams, tech lawsuits, and prescription drugs
Yesterday, Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird visited KLEM to talk about her work ahead of the upcoming election. She walked in with custom “Iowa Cold Cases” card decks to highlight the importance of solving old crimes.
Medicare has entered its open enrollment period, which has caused an increase in scam calls. Bird urged Iowans of all ages to stay vigilant.
A big effort in Bird’s office right now is a lawsuit against OpenAI, which has caused harm to kids through ChatGPT.
Bird also highlighted the importance of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which is tomorrow.
Bird, a Republican, will oppose Democrat Nate Willems on the ballot.

Westfield City Council to hold emergency meeting tonight
Tonight at 6:15 p.m., the Westfield City Council will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the removal of Mayor Michael Bohlke from office and to conduct official business that was neglected on Monday.
Kelli Pierce, the Westfield City Clerk, received a ruling from the Iowa League of Cities that determined the 3-0 vote to remove Mayor Bohlke in September was legitimate and enforceable. Pierce explained the ruling.
Should the removal of Bohlke be upheld, Beth Terpstra, the council member who petitioned for Bohlke’s removal, will “reside as mayor in the interim.” No clear path forward has been decided by the council at this time.
The next regularly scheduled Westfield City Council meeting will be on November 16th.
