**Le Mars water department is flushing the South part of town, it could take up to 2 weeks to flush the South side.  Residents should refrain from washing any clothes or running any more water than needed between the hours of 8am and 3:30pm on the days we are flushing in your area.   (May 6 )

 

**Le Mars Community Theatre presents “The Red Velvet Cake” May 8th through the 12th.  Evening shows at 7:30pm, Saturday and Sunday Matinees at 2:00pm.  Something new, two shows on Saturday at 2:00pm and 7:30pm.   In this riotously funny Southern-fried comedy, the three Verdeen cousins—Gaynelle, Peaches, and Jimmie Wyvette—could not have picked a worse time to throw their family reunion. **Le Mars American Legion Golf Tournament is Saturday, May 11 with a shot gun start at 1:00pm at Willow Creek Golf Course in Le Mars.  Team of 4 is $200.00, with cart.  Teams will play 9 regular holes and 9 par 3 holes.  Free will donation dinner at the Legion after golfing.  Register by May 6 call Dan at (712) 541-2386.

 

**Floyd Valley Healthcare Babysitting Class is Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost for this course is $20.00, which includes a snack, lunch and materials. The Babysitting Class is for boys and girls ages 11 to 15. The curriculum includes: Safety, emergencies, feeding, diapering, bathing, bedtime, getting a babysitting job and pay scale.  Pre-registration is necessary, please call 546-3401 or 1-800-642-6074 ext. 3401. Class size is limited.

**Floyd Valley Healthcare  Prepared Childbirth class will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Floyd Valley Healthcare, lower level room #2. This class is open to anyone expecting their first child and interested in preparing for childbirth. The session will cover a variety of topics including: what to expect during each trimester, relaxation techniques, labor and delivery, parenting and taking care of a newborn. Please bring two pillows and a partner. To pre-register please call Floyd Valley Healthcare at 546-3401 or 1-800-642-6074 ext. 3401. These classes are offered as a service to moms delivering at Floyd Valley Healthcare. There is a $25 course fee for moms not delivering here at the hospital.

 

**Floyd Valley Federated Garden Club annual spring plant sale is Saturday, May 11 from 9am until noon at Red’s Printing’s parking lot, on Highway 75.  Locally grown plants, annuals, perennials, vegetables and houseplants.

**The Luxembourg Heritage Society of Northwest Iowa will meet Saturday, May 11, at 9:30 a.m. in the meeting room of the Remsen Public Library. Topics for the meeting will include the possibility of setting up a student exchange program between St. Mary’s High School in Remsen and a high school in Luxembourg, as well as planning for an outdoor Mass at the St. Donatus site.

**Le Mars American Legion Mother’s Day Breakfast is Sunday, May 12 from 8am to 1pm.  Serving pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, milk, juice and coffee. Free will donation.  American Legion Wasmar Post 241 is located at 110 Plymouth Street SW, Le Mars.

 

**Floyd Valley Healthcare Retirees coffee will be held Tuesday, May 14 at 9:30am at Family Table in Le Mars and every second Tuesday of each month.

**The Plymouth County Historical Museum Annual Banquet is Thursday, May 16th at 5:00. This year’s theme is “Revisiting the Spotlight: LCHS Drama Returns to Old Central after 60 years” Our entertainment for the night will be a performance by the Le Mars Community High School Drama Department, as they will be putting on an excerpt from their 2024 Spring Play, “Perit on the High Seas Or… Let’s Get Together and Do Launch.” We are honored to be hosting them and excited to see the LCHS performers return to the historic “Old Central” stage after 60 years. The gym will be decked out in a fancy roaring 20s theme, which is also the play’s theme.  The night includes a delicious catered meal, our business meeting, and a special performance.  Tickets are 30 dollars each and are available online at this link: tinyurl.com/mvumraj6

**The Northwest Iowa Genealogical Society will meet on Saturday, May 18th at 1:30 pm at the Plymouth County Historical Museum, 335 1st Ave SW, Le Mars. Following the usual business meeting, special guest Gretchen Gondek of Sioux City will deliver a captivating program titled Mourning Rituals of Victorian America.  Focusing on Queen Victoria’s influence on our traditions in honoring the death of loved ones, she will explore the wide range of sometimes bizarre practices.  This event is open to the public, and there is no charge for admission.  It will take place in the museum’s fourth-floor study hall, and an elevator is available for transport. Following the program, refreshments will be served.

 

**Le Mars American Legion Steak Sale is Tuesday, May 21 from 3pm to 5pm.   (NOTE CHANGE of  TIME). Selling ribeye, New York strip, sirloin and t-bone steaks. **Le Mars Public Library offers Tech Tuesday every Tuesday from 2pm until 4pm. Stop in and talk to a librarian about: basic cellphone and tablet use, online resources, creating an email, internet basics, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office.  No registration is required. Walk-in only. 20 minute limit if others are waiting.  The Library is unable to assist with in-depth technology issues, fill out forms, or provide tax/legal advice.

 

 

**Adults and young people interested in learning how to paint or in developing their artistic talent are invited to sign up for a summer workshop or camp offered by Northwestern College’s art department.   “Want to Paint Like Bob?” will guide participants in painting a nature scene in the style of famous ’80s television icon Bob Ross. A two-hour daytime session starting at 10 a.m. either Tuesday, June 25, or Thursday, July 25, is geared for sixth graders through adults, while Thursday, July 11, at 7 p.m. is designated as a date night activity for adults. The cost is $40 per person or $60 per couple. All supplies are provided; paint clothes are recommended.

“Wild Watercolors,” for students in fifth through eighth grade, is a four-session camp scheduled June 18–21 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tyrrell will demonstrate how to mix colors and the difference between wet and dry brushing. Participants will also learn how to use salt, masking tape and watercolor pencils in their work.  The cost is $80 per person, all supplies are provided, and paint clothes are recommended.

Finally, “Amazing Acrylics” is a four-session camp for students in seventh through 12th grade. It will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, July 9, 16, 23 and 30. Participants will learn about color mixing, how to use palette knives, and how to paint light reflections with a disco ball. The cost is $80 per person, all supplies are provided, and paint clothes are recommended.

**Iowa State University Extension and Outreach to host 19 new youth camps throughout Plymouth County this summer. Registration is opened for youth in 1st grade and up; 4-H, Clover Kid membership not required.

The camps are hands-on and interactive, and focus on science, technology, engineering, art, and math. From robotics to cooking and everything in between, camp topics offer a little for everyone. 4-H or Clover Kids membership is not required, and financial assistance is available.  Complete details about each camp can be viewed at https://www.extension.iastate.edu/plymouth/local-youth-programs beginning in early-March. **Shelly Sitzmann, Plymouth County Treasurer, wants to remind individuals of a tax credit for elderly homeowners and homeowners with disabilities.  Those who qualify, must sign up before June 1st for credit on their 2024-2025 property taxes.  To qualify and receive the credit on your real estate taxes, Iowa residents who own their own homes must:

  • be 65 or older as of December 31, 2023, OR be totally disabled and at least 18   AND  have total household income under $25,328 for 2023

If you are 70 or older but have a household income greater than $25,328 in 2023, you may still be eligible for a credit that will “freeze” your property tax.  For income guidelines contact the Treasurer’s office or go to the Plymouth Co website.  You may fill out an application at the Treasurer’s office.  Bring your 2023 social security statement of earnings, any 1099’s you may have received, and any other income that you received in 2023. The Treasurer and her staff will help in getting you signed up for this credit.  June 1st is the deadline to sign up for credit on your 2024-2025 property taxes.  If you need additional assistance or have any questions, please contact the Treasurer’s office at 546-7056.

**The Plymouth County Driver’s License office will open on Tuesdays from 8:30 – 4:30.  This will be in addition to the office being open on Wednesday & Thursday 8:30 – 4:30.  The Driver’s License office, located in the Annex next to the Courthouse, will be open on Tuesdays for obtaining or renewing drivers licenses, identification cards, updating to REAL ID, permit tests and other knowledge tests.  These Drivers Licenses services are walk-in – no appointment is needed.  If you need to schedule a drive, that may also be done on Tuesdays. You may call 546-1663 to schedule a time if you need to do a drive.   If you have questions about Drivers Licenses, go to the Iowa DOT website at www.iowadot.gov, or contact the Plymouth County Driver’s License office during their business hours at 546-1663.  Again, Plymouth County’s Drivers License will now be open on Tuesdays 8:30 – 4:30 in addition to Wednesday & Thursday

**The County Veteran Affairs office, located in the Courthouse, office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm.”

**Le Mars Senior Center, located at 40 ½ Central Avenue Southeast, behind City Hall is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm.  Le Mars Senior Center weekly on Mondays and Thursday from 1 to 4pm play Euchre on Wednesdays and Friday from 1 to 4pm come to play Pinochle.  Membership fees is $10 per year.  Le Mars Senior Center can be rented for events, call 546-6740 for more information.

 

**The Table formerly known as Rejoice! Food Pantry hours are 12:00-2:00pm on the 1st, 4th & 5th Wednesdays and every Saturday from 9:00-11:00am.  The Table is located at Rejoice! Community Church located at 1320 3rd Avenue Southeast, Le Mars.

**Siouxland Food Bank Distribution is the second Tuesday of each month from 4pm to 5pm at Rejoice! Community Church located at 1320 3rd Avenue Southeast, Le Mars.    Please bring your own bags and containers.
