(LE MARS) — Le Mars swept a makeup doubleheader from Sioux City West Monday night at Carey gym, 57-52 in the girls game and 86-42 in the boys game. The twinbill was postponed back on December 11th by a blizzard. In the girls game, Le Mars rallied from a ten-point third quarter deficit to win for the second time since the Christmas break. Carolyn Ahlers scored all three of her field goals in succession in the final 2 1/2 minutes of the game to put Le Mars in front. Emily Anderson’s three-point bucket drew the Lady Bulldogs within one at 47-46 and Ahlers first basket made it 48-47. Le Mars never trailed again. Erica Westhoff hit a free throw with 15 seconds to play to extend the lead to 55-52 and Anderson added two more foul shots with ten seconds left to complete the scoring. Leah Clement led a balanced Le Mars scoring attack with 13 while Anderson had 12 and Westhoff 11. Ahlers had seven for the night. Khyrie Johnson of West led all scorers with 20. There were 53 fouls called in the game and a combined 70 foul shots taken. The two teams combined to miss 35 of those attempts. Le Mars improves to 5-and-7.
In the boys game, Le Mars sprinted to a 51-26 halftime lead and cruised to a 44-point win. For the fourth straight game, the clock was running in continuous mode by the end of the night due to the 35-point rule. Judd Herzberg and Austin Homan led the Bulldogs with 14 points each and Paxton Strub added 12. The Bulldogs are 5-and-0 since the holiday break and 9-and-2 for the season. Le Mars travels to Storm Lake Tuesday for Lakes Conference action. The games will be carried on KLEM.

(STORM LAKE) — Le Mars swept a Lakes Conference doubleheader at Storm Lake Tuesday night, winning the girls game 39-28 and the boys game 76-70. In the girls game, Le Mars took the lead for good by midway through the first quarter and built a 15-point cushion by the third quarter. The Tornadoes closed to within seven late in the game before falling to 0-and-11 with an eleven point loss. Although the winning margin was considerably less than the 50-point margin of their December 7th meeting in Le Mars, the Lady Bulldogs seemed to be in control of the contest for much of the night. Emily Anderson led Le Mars with 14 points and Carolyn Ahlers added 10. Le Mars takes a 6-and-7 mark to George-Little Rock Thursday for a makeup jv/varsity doubleheader.
In the boys game, Le Mars nearly blew a 16-point lead as Storm Lake battled back to within one point with four minutes to play before the Bulldogs made enough plays down the stretch to earn their sixth straight win. Le Mars hit 19-of-27 foul shots while Storm Lake was 3-of-7 on the line. The Bulldogs have now won ten in a row against the Tornadoes, including a 21-point win earlier this season. Paxton Strub led Le Mars in scoring Tuesday with 23 points while Austin Homan had 20 and Jordan Eisma added 16. Pal Deng had 23 for Storm Lake. The Bulldogs improve to 10-and-2 for the season and 7-and-1 in Lakes Conference play. That keeps Le Mars tied for the league lead with Western Christian and Emmetsburg. Le Mars hosts Spirit Lake Friday night at Carey gym.
(LE MARS) — The number-eight rated Hinton girls escaped an upset bid by Gehlen Catholic to win 47-42 Tuesday night in Le Mars as Mallory Thoreson netted 24 points and Ashton Moody dropped in 15 for the Blackhawks. Katelin Langel led Gehlen with 14 and Steph Rohe added ten. Gehlen trailed 41-30 after three quarters before battling back to within five by game’s end. Hinton beat Gehlen by 24 in December.
In the boys game, Gehlen swept the season series with a 58-43 win over Hinton, pulling away in the fourth quarter after leading by just five heading into the final period. Trevor Bouma had 17 for the Jays and Michael Whitehead 13. Jason Vander Kooi had 11 for the Blackhawks.
The Gehlen girls drop to 8-and-5 for the season while the Gehlen boys improve to 10-and-3. The Jays travel to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Friday for War Eagle Conference play.

(GEORGE) — The George-Little Rock girls built a 19-point lead through three quarters before having to hold off a fourth quarter rally by Le Mars to win 61-52 in George Thursday night. The game was make-up from a January 11th postponement. Molly Renken had a career-high 16 points to lead the Le Mars scoring with Emily Anderson adding 14. Karlee Stubbe led the Mustangs with 17. Le Mars falls to 6-and-8 for the season and returns to Lakes Conference action Friday, hosting Spirit Lake. The Le Mars JV ran their record to 14-and-0 with a win on Emily Pick’s last second three-point bucket.

(LE MARS) — The Le Mars Bulldogs extended their winning streak to seven in a row with a 61-48 Lakes Conference win over Spirit Lake Friday night at Carey gym. Jordan Eisma led a balanced attack with 16 points, Paxton Strub had 15 points with Judd Herzberg adding another 14 and Austin Homan contibuting 10. Mitch Peschon led all scorers with 18 for the Indians. The Bulldogs led 29-23 at halftime but extended the lead to 14 after three periods of play. Le Mars improves to 11-and-2 on the season and 8-and-1 in the conference. The victory keeps the Bulldogs tied for first place with Emmetsburg and Western Christian. Emmetsburg comes to Carey gym Tuesday night and Le Mars travels to Hull to meet Western next Friday night.
In the girls game Friday night, Spirit Lake got 24 points from sophomore sensation K.J. Veldman and 19 from Leah Hilpipre to power their way to a 59-52 win over the Lady Bulldogs. Emily Anderson and Molly Renken had eleven each for Le Mars. The game was close throughout with Spirit Lake leading 24-21 at halftime and 43-35 entering the fourth quarter. The loss drops Le Mars to 6-and-9 for the season and 4-and-5 in Lakes Conference play.
(HARTLEY) — Gehlen Catholic swept a War Eagle Conference doubleheader against Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Friday night in Hartley. The Gehlen girls led most of the way in posting a 51-38 victory over H-M-S. The Lady Jays ran off 16 straight points in the second quarter to erase a 15-14 decicit and led 30-16 at halftime. Steph Rohe had a career-high 20 points to pace the Gehlen scoring attack while Amber Timmins added another 18 to the winning cause. Hollee Mohni had 16 for the Hawks. Gehlen improves to 9-and-5 for the season and 6-and-1 in the W-E-C.
In the boys game, Gehlen opened up a 17-point second half lead before settling on a ten-point victory, 54-44 over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Friday. The Jays led 27-20 at the half but after holding the Hawks to just two free throws in the third quarter the Jays extended the advantage to 35-22. The lead reached 39-22 early in the fourth quarter. Zach Wurth had a career-best 18 points for the Jays with Taylor Wurth and Eric Loutsch collecting eleven each. Cody Leng led H-M-S with 14. Gehlen improves to 11-and-3 for the season and 6-and-1 in the War Eagle Conference.

The Le Mars girls topped an eight-team field at Sweet 16 Lanes in Le Mars Saturday with a 2514 team score. OA/BCIG was second followed by Council Bluffs T-J, Sioux City East, Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Sioux City North, Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn and Sioux City West. Sara Muckey of Council Bluffs T-J had the top series score with a 433 with Le Mars holding down the next three places .. Ashley Rolfes 405, Danielle Hystad 360 and Kayla Crippen 356. Susie Haack finished sixth with a 345 for the Lady Bulldogs.
Council Bluffs T-J won the boys meet with a 3024 with Sergeant Bluff-Luton finishing second, OA/BCIG third and then Sioux City North, Sioux City East, Sioux City West, Le Mars (7th) and Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn. Cody Selig of Sergeant Bluff-Luton had the top series score with a 459. Justin Prieksat of Le Mars finished sixth with a 413.
