(LeMars) — LeMars Police and the Plymouth County Sheriff’s office have made four arrests as a result of a traffic stop that turned into a methamphetamine drug bust.
A deputy stopped a vehicle on Highway 3 and noticed inside the car were items associated with the manufacturing of methamphetamine. An investigation was conducted and search warrants were then issued. As a result of the investigation, arrests were made to Theodore Recker of LeMars for the possession of methamphetamine, third offense which is a class D felony, and for conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, a class B felony. Also arrested were Rebecca Lopez of LeMars, Henry Groendyk of Sioux City, and Stephanie Wadell of LeMars. Each were charged with the conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, a class B felony. All four were taken into custody at the Plymouth County jail.
(Sioux City) — Western Iowa Technical Community College has set a new enrollment record for the fall semester. A total of 6,787 students have registered for classes, a 5.7 percent increase over fall 2010. This is WITCC’s eleventh consecutive semester of record enrollment.
Enrollment measured in credit hours achieved an all-time record at 62,524.5, exceeding last year’s total by 3.1 percent.
The College experienced a significant increase (9.7 percent) in part-time students.
The College has 696 recent grads on its campus this fall versus 610 last year, an increase of 14.1 percent. Students taking College Now courses while still in high school also increased.
(Sioux City) — The Sioux City driver’s license station located at the Market Place Mall on Hamilton Blvd. will be closed today and Monday for a reconfiguration of the business space operations. Customers will now have their driver’s license photo taken first, rather than at the end of the visit.
(Spirit Lake) — A semi truck and trailer hauling a load of hogs was involved in a roll-over accident on Wednesday afternoon resulting in the death of 49 hogs. Michael Brown, 22, of Sioux City failed to negotiate a curve on Highway 86 near the Minnesota-Iowa border at Spirit Lake when he lost control of his semi rig. The truck and trailer rolled on to its side, knocking over a traffic sign and blockin g a roadway. The truck was owned by Kunkel Trucking of LeMars. The accident was investigated by the Iowa Highway Patrol. Several fire and law enforcement agencies were called to the scene to assist with the roundup of the hogs.
