(LeMars) — Today is election day and polls in Plymouth County will open at 12:00 noon and continue until 8:00 p.m. LeMars has the mayor and two council members seeking re-election, without opposition. But other surrounding communities have some races to watch. In Remsen, they will be choosing a new mayor. Seeking the position of Remsen mayor is Jeffrey Cluck and Dennis Gralapf. Craig has seven candidates running for council positions. Struble has five people running for council members. Merrill has Michael Lindsey and Richard Husman both seeking the mayor’s position, while six others are running for a seat at the city council. Four people are seeking a city council position for Hinton.

Oyens will cast their votes at the Oyens Town Hall. Hinton will go to the Hinton Community Center. Merrill residents will vote at the Kissinger Civic Center. Kingsley Community Center will serve as the polling place for Kingsley voters. Remsen will go to the Remsen Public library. Akron will go to the Akron Public Library. Brunsville Legion will serve as the polling place for Brunsville residents. Westfield residents will cast their votes at the Westfield Community Center.
(LeMars) — The Plymouth County Secondary Roads Department has announced that it completed the work on Dogwood Avenue between 180th and 190th streets. The county roads department replaced a wooded bridge with a culvert pipe.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Iowa farmers are wrapping up the harvest as field work progresses, but some farmers are delaying applying fertilizer because of the dry weather.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says in the weekly crop report on Monday that Iowa finally received some rain last week, easing moisture concerns slightly. Even so, topsoil moisture levels are 68
percent very short or short.
Fall tillage continues, but some farmers are waiting to apply anhydrous due to concerns of the dry conditions preventing sealing and causing nitrogen losses. More corn stalks are being baled this fall because of concerns about hay supplies.
Rain fell across the state last Wednesday and Thursday, ranging from a trace at Sheldon to 2.3 inches at Keokuk. Rain is forecast starting Tuesday, with snow possible in northern Iowa.
