(Orange City) — Republican presidential nominee, Governor Mitt Romney addressed five key points of interest during his political rally held today at Orange City on the campus of Northwestern College. More than 3,000 people crowded inside the gym to hear Romney. Almost immediately, Romney spoke about President Obama’s failures.

Romney zeroed in on the jobs report that was issued this morning, saying it is disappointing. He acknowledged there is a lot of bad news, but he predicts that America will come roaring back. He told the 3,000 plus crowd that he knows how to get the private sector to create 12 million new jobs, and he says millions of jobs can be created in the energy sector and he wants to take full advantage of America’s resources for energy.

Romney says America needs to take advantage of the Keystone pipeline from Canada. He says it means turning the Gulf of Mexico back on for more drilling. Romney also says he would issue more permits for oil exploration.

Romney says we also need to use more natural gas, saying it is our “ace in the hole.”
The Republican candidate also focused on job skills for workers. He says he will champion small businesses by reducing taxes and regulations, and he will take advantage of trade opportunities and punish those nations that don’t follow the rules involving trade. Romney concluded his 23 minute speech by telling the enthusiastic crowd he knows what it takes to get people jobs and how to reduce the ever-growing debt. He reminded the gathering of the $16 trillion dollar debt and pointed to a student holding a sign about the new debt

Mason Says She Has Second Thoughts About Beer Contract
JOHNSON, Iowa (AP) – University of Iowa President Sally Mason says in hindsight, she probably wouldn’t renew a contract with Anheuser-Busch because of the backlash.
Mason says she’s not sure it’s worth the revenue. During a taping on Iowa Public Television’s “Iowa Press” program on Friday, Mason says she’d probably reconsider, and more than likely not even do it.
Iowa and Anheuser-Busch have a new four-year agreement that allows the beer company to use Iowa’s Tigerhawk logo on its posters, beer cups and T-shirts. Critics say it conflicts with the
university’s efforts to curb students’ binge drinking.
Recently, the logo appeared on posters advertising drink specials in Iowa City, a move not approved by the university.
Mason says the posters were removed, but the damage was already done.
Fire At Cornell College
MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (AP) – A school spokesman says firefighters have put out a fire that damaged a classroom building at Cornell College in the eastern Iowa city of Mount Vernon.
College spokesman Jamie Kelly said a few firefighters were still on the scene Friday morning, checking for hot spots. Police say a lightning strike started the blaze just after 3:30 a.m., and several nearby fire departments were called for help. No injuries have been reported.
Kelly says no one was in College Hall when it was struck. He says a bell cupola atop the building was destroyed, and there was some fire damage in the attic. Kelly says the building was built in
1857.
Cornell College’s website says Cornell is a private, liberal arts school with an enrollment of nearly 1,200.
