Romney Speaks At Orange City
(Orange City) — Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney spoke to an enthusiastic crowd of more than 3000 people during a political rally held Friday at Northwestern College in Orange City. Romney says the job report issued Friday morning is disappointing and he pointed out President Obama’s faults.

The Republican presidential candidate told the crowd that he knows how to get 12 million American jobs. During the address, Romney spoke about how he helped finance the company Staples, which brought a round of applause. Staples has a marketing center based in Orange City.

Romney was speaking to a friendly gathering, of which the vast majority are republicans. Kent Pruismann a Sioux County cattle producer from Rock Valley says he liked the five points that Romney discussed.

Branstad Believes Independents Will Vote For Romney
(Orange City) — Iowa is split nearly right down the middle in terms of presidential candidates. Governor Terry Branstad attended the Mitt Romney rally at Orange City on Friday, and he says many Iowans that voted for President Obama four years ago, are disappointed, and that is why he thinks they may vote for Mitt Romney this coming election.

The governor believes the growing debt may in fact play a large role in how people will vote in November.

Vilsack and King Ready For 2nd Round of Debates
(Orange City) — Round two of the the King and Vilsack debates will take place this afternoon from the Clay County Fairgrounds at Spencer. The two candidates are vying for the Congressional seat of the new Iowa fourth district. The first debate was held Thursday evening from a radio station’s studio in Des Moines. King was at the Romney rally in Orange City, and he says the first debate wasn’t really a debate.

The debate is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Clay County Events Center.
Le Mars Police Office and Canine Partner Place First in Competition
(Sioux City) — Le Mars Police officer Mark Reed and his canine patrol partner, Pike, placed first in the recent United States Police Canine Association region 21 certification and field trials that was held in Sioux City. Reed and his dog, were able to capture top honors in the obedience and criminal apprehension division. Nearly 25 teams participated in the event.
Girl Scout Leader Charged In Theft
CENTERVILLE, Iowa (AP) – A former Girl Scout leader in Centerville has been charged with stealing over $12,000 from her troop.
The Daily Iowegian (https://bit.ly/UyrRnd ) says 30-year-old Heather Benjamin, of Centerville, is charged with first-degree theft. According to the criminal complaint, Benjamin used the
troop’s bank account as her personal account between October 2011 and the end of August. Police say she made over 150 transactions at restaurants, convenience stores and ATMs.
The newspaper says the troop held two sales since last fall, raising over $17,000 from selling cookies, nuts and magazines.
There is no attorney listed for Benjamin on the online court system. Her preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 19 in Appanoose County District Court.
