“Proof” Opens this Weekend at Postal Playhouse

(Le Mars) — How do you prove you’re sane? How do you prove you’re telling the truth?  These are the things that the character Catherine faces in the upcoming Le Mars Community Theater’s production of “Proof.”  Under the direction of Lisa Opheim, who directed last fall’s “Barefoot in the Park,” the four member cast tackles a modern script full of heavy dialogue and true-to-life funny moments.  Opheim tells us about the story.

When the funeral comes along, the overbearing and overly responsible sister swoops in and attempts to save the day, but is interrupted by the presence of a math proof whose authorship is unknown.  This “proof” could change the world of mathematics and it’s either a novice- Catherine, or a crazy man- her father, who wrote it.  Catherine is being played by Melanie Sailor of Le Mars; the grad student by Dan Casey of Le Mars, and the sister by Angela Riedeman, Alton.  Newcomer George New joins the players at Le Mars Community theater from Dakota Dunes.

Written in 2002 by David Auburn, Opheim says that “Proof” will strike a chord with the audience.
