Governor Branstad Holds Annual Pheasant Hunt In Plymouth County
(Le Mars) — Governor Branstad is in Plymouth County today for the 27th Annual Governor’s
Pheasant Hunt. This marks the second time Plymouth County has hosted the governor’s annual
hunting excursion. The first time was in 1994. Branstad spoke to a gathering of nearly 70
invited guests that comprised of local members of the Pheasants Forever chapter,landowners,
business leaders, and several officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
During his remarks, the governor was very complimentary of the city of Le Mars and of
Plymouth County.

Following the banquet, Governor Branstad told KLEM news the annual pheasant hunt started in
1986, the year of Iowa’s 150th anniversary of statehood.

Plymouth county Pheasants Forever chapter is hosting the hunt, and Branstad says he has been
made well aware of the chapter’s noted reputation.

Branstad says besides having an enjoyable day of hunting, the outing also can mean economic
development for the state.

58 people will join the governor on today’s hunt. Brandstad joked about Congressman Steve
King and Texas Senator Ted Cruz having hunted in Plymouth County last weekend, he said, “I
hope they left me some birds.”
Fire Department Releases October Report
(Le Mars) — October was a busy month for the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department.
Obviously, it is national fire prevention month, which meant the local fire brigade spoke to
25 classes reaching 452 children. 480 people attended the open house pancake feed calling
attention to fire prevention week, and 300 people also attended the fund raiser at the Blue
Bunny ice cream parlor. The fire department was called upon 51 times during the month of
October…13 of those calls were for fires, twice the department was asked to perform
rescues, there were three investigations, and there were 33 requests for services.
Election Day Is Tuesday
(Le Mars) — Tuesday is election day and in Le Mars, voters will have the opportunity to vote for a mayor, three council seats, and two hospital trustees. The only race is with Ward I of Le Mars where incumbent council member John Leonard will face challenger Clark Goodchild. Council members Ken Nelson and Rex Knapp are unopposed as is Mayor Dick Kirchoff. Hospital trustees Bill Young and Craig Bauerly are also incumbents running unopposed. Polls will open at 12:00 noon and will remain open until 8:00 p.m.
