Rysaiah Sitzmann wins weather-shortened War Eagle Conference individual title

Gehlen Catholic junior Rysaiah Sitzmann won the individual title with a 44 at Tuesday’s War Eagle Conference golf tournament that was shortened to nine holes after the rainy weather in the morning.

The girls were able to get on the course for a couple holes before the rain washed out the initially planned 18-hole tournament. They all came in to the clubhouse to wait for the rain to subside before going back out there for a shortened nine-hole tournament. Some golfers could view the scenario as a problem, but Sitzmann said the break helped calm her nerves for when she went back out there.

With the weather conditions being rainy and dreary, it meant drives became that much more important. That was good news for Sitzmann who says her drives kept her on path to the hole all day.

Sitzmann is back on the golf team this year after deciding to run track last season as a sophomore. When she rejoined the team this year, her goal was to simply have fun, and she has done that to the tune of earning six medalist honors this season.

As the meets start to take on more importance for postseason continuation, Sitzmann will use her “have fun” approach to keep things light when the pressure could be high.

The Jays will wrap up their regular season on Monday, May 6 at home against MMCRU.
