Gehlen Hosts Veterans Day Program
(Le Mars) — “Go make a difference.” That was the message given by Lynn Ruba as she spoke to the gathering of people attending the Gehlen Catholic Special Veteran’s Day program held this morning. Ruba was speaking of her daughter, Katelynn, who is presently serving in the United States Navy on board the USS Boxer deployed in the Mediterranean Sea. Ruba says her daughter through an email message describes a typical day at sea.

Ruba says her daughter and other service personnel enjoy receiving letters, postcards, and
email messages which help with morale. Lynn Ruba then challenged the gathering to “bombard” the ship with letters and email messages.
Sioux County Attorney Willing To Wait On Charges For Daycare Provider
(Orange City) – A prosecutor is defending his decision to wait for additional testing before deciding whether to bring murder charges against a northwest Iowa daycare provider who allegedly admitted to causing injuries that killed a 3-year-old girl.
Sioux County Attorney Coleman McAllister said Monday he wants the state medical examiner to rule on Autumn Elgersma’s cause of death before deciding whether to charge Rochelle Sapp.
The medical examiner has requested additional testing by University of Iowa pathologists, which could take two weeks or longer.
Investigators say Sapp admitted to throwing Autumn to the floor while watching her in Orange City on Oct. 29. The girl was hospitalized with severe head trauma, and died days later.
Iowa DNR And Iowa Agriculture Department Combine Efforts For Water Quality
(Le Mars) — Water quality is of concern to nearly everyone, and recently the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship along with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources have teamed up together to address water quality issues, both from the point and non-point pollution sources. Iowa DNR director Chuck Gibb says the initiative was created to help reduce the nitrates that have deposited in the Gulf of Mexico creating a “dead zone.”

Gibb says environmentalists, and the EPA was encouraging Iowa to take action to reduce the nitrate levels. He says Iowa State University scientists were also involved to help develop strategies and best management practices. The D-N-R director says a website was created to help individuals understand what they can do to help reduce the nitrate levels. The program is voluntary and Gibb defends this action, rather than making the program’s regulations mandatory.

Presidential Candidate Returns To Iowa Too Watch Movie
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Former U.S. Senator and GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum is in Iowa to attend a movie screening.
Santorum is planning to go to a Monday screening of “The Christmas Candle,” a new film by EchoLight Studios where he serves as CEO. The Dallas-based company makes movies intended for a Christian audience.
The screening will be held at Jordan Creek Mall in West Des Moines.
The movie is about an English village that receives Christmas miracles every 25 years. According to the film’s website, it will be released in theaters on November 22.
Burglar Attempts Twice To Steal Items From Same House
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – Police say an Iowa City man faces several charges for attempting to steal twice from the same person in one day.
Wesley J. Madden is accused of entering the home of an acquaintance Thursday and trying to take a game console and several video games. Police say the acquaintance caught Madden in the act, and he left the property.
Police say Madden returned to the home less than five hours later and took the electronic equipment while the acquaintance was away. Surveillance video shows Madden selling the game console at a pawn shop.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen says (https://icp-c.com/17qMA6S ) Madden has been charged with felony counts of second-degree burglary and third-degree burglary, as well as an aggravated misdemeanor count of third-degree theft. Court records do not list an attorney.
