Floyd Valley Hospital Conducts Ground Breaking Ceremony
(Le Mars) — Floyd Valley Hospital held its official ground breaking ceremonies last evening. Several hospital officials, city officials, trustees, and others spoke before a gathered crowd. Mayor Pro tem Rex Knapp delivered the official proclaimation for the Floyd Valley Hospital.

Craig Bauerly, Floyd Valley Hospital’s chairman of the hospital trustees spoke of how the community needs to move ahead, and the expansion of the hospital facilities is an indication of a strong community with a vision to the future.

Floyd Valley Hospital Urgent Care Clinic Has Changed Time For Saturday
(Le Mars) — Floyd Valley Hospital Family Medicine Clinic of Le Mars will begin their urgent care clinic at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29th. This work will also disrupt the phone service to the clinic from approximately 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Floyd Valley Hospital is sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Grass Fires Remain A Problem For County Fire Departments
(Le Mars) — Grass fires continue to plague local fire departments. The Hinton Fire Department was called to two separate grass fires. Once was to offer assistance to the Lawton Fire Department at 4:00 p.m. at 1410 120th St. Earlier in the afternoon the Hinton Fire Department responded to a grass fire in the southwest corner of Plymouth County at 33240 Glen Drive off County Road C-80. Oyens, Remsen, and Kingsley Fire Departments responded to a grass fire along highway 140, south of 230th Street. Immediately after fire officials were able to get the fire under control, both the Oyens and Remsen Fire Departments responded to another grass fire located on Quartz Avenue between 180th and 190th Streets.
Two Vehicle Accident At Intersection
(Le Mars) — A two-vehicle accident occurred last evening at about 7:10 p.m. at the intersection of County Roads C-16 and K-22. Three people were injured in the collision, 32 year old Janeane Van Ginkel of Doon and her six year old daughter, Nichole Van Ginkel. The third victim, 56 year old Marlow Smith of Sioux City,the driver of the second vehicle. Van Ginkel was traveling northbound on K-22 when Smith failed to yield at the intersection and attempted to make a left hand turn from C-16 on to K-22. Smith pulled out in front of the Van Ginkel vehicle. The Van Ginkels were transported to the Floyd Valley Hospital for treatment. Airbags had deployed in the mini van driven by Van Ginkel. Smith sustained injuries, but refused to seek medical attention. Smith was cited for an OWI and failure to yield. The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department, Le Mars Ambulance, Akron Ambulance, and the Plymouth County Sheriff’s office responded to the accident.
Two Suspects Of Sexual Abuse Arrested
(Le Mars) — Plymouth County authorities have arrested a Remsen man for sexual abuse. 55 year old Brian Brown was charged on Monday on O’Brien County warrants for sexual abuse in the second degree, sexual abuse in the third degree and lascivious acts with a minor. Brown was transported to the O’Brien County jail and is being held on a $25,000 bond.
(Le Mars) — A Beresford, South Dakota man was placed under arrest by Union County officials and transported to the Plymouth County jail on a warrant for sexual abuse in the second degree, a class B felony. 30 year old Martin Dietrich was charged for the offenses. His bond has been set at $50,000 cash only.
Plymouth County Supervisors Approve Aerial Photography
(Le Mars) — Plymouth County Board of Supervisors approved a contract for a new aerial pictometry of the county. County assessor Bob Heyderhoff says the program will have planes flying above the county taking three-diminsional photos to be assembled for plat and assessment purposes.

The contract is for three years at a cost of $111,000. Heyderhoff says the state strongly encourages counties to participate in the program, and to update their present information. The county assessor says our neighboring counties are participating in the program, making it easier and more cost efficient.

Plymouth County has had aerial photos in the past, but Heyderhoff says this is the first time for the three-diminsonal aerial photos.
“Evening Of Culture” Production Set For Postal Playhouse
(Le Mars)– Even though it may be a bit of a misnomer, “An Evening Culture,” is sure to be entertaining. The comedy opens this weekend at the Postal Playhouse, and has a cast of many new faces and a couple “oldies” but goodies!
Kathleen List is one of the new faces that you’ll see. She explains what an “Evening of Culture” is all about.

Kathleen plays the part of the town floozy, playing Juliet’s nurse. Her daughter, Katie Bland, plays the director in the show. Other newbies include Sue Becker and Don Gilmore. The two characters posing as Romeo and Juliet are being played by a couple familiar faces: Donna Muilenburg and Dan Delperdang. Other actors involved in the show are Donna Rasmussen and Wayne Marty.
Kathleen says this is the first acting she’s done since high school and feels that the Le Mars Community Theater has welcomed her with open arms, teaching her the basics of being on stage in a fun and friendly way.

Le Mars Community Theater “newbie” Kathleen List says she’s always been a supporter of community theater no matter where she’s lived, but it’s always been from the audience.
