(Le Mars) — A two-vehicle accident occurred last evening at about 7:10 p.m. at the intersection of County Roads C-16 and K-22. Three people were injured in the collision, 32 year old Janeane Van Ginkel of Doon and her six year old daughter, Nichole Van Ginkel. The third victim, 56 year old Marlow Smith of Sioux City,the driver of the second vehicle, a pickup truck. Van Ginkel was traveling northbound on K-22 when Smith failed to yield at the intersection and attempted to make a left hand turn from C-16 on to K-22. Smith pulled out in front of the Van Ginkel vehicle. The Van Ginkels were transported to the Floyd Valley Hospital for treatment. Airbags had deployed in the mini van driven by Van Ginkel. Smith sustained injuries, but refused to seek medical attention. Smith was cited for an OWI and failure to yield. Both vehicles were totalled. The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department, Le Mars Ambulance, Akron Ambulance, and the Plymouth County Sheriff’s office responded to the accident.
