Sheriff’s Office Investigating The Death Of Rural Akron Couple
(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of two people of rural Akron. According to a release by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department, at 10:45 Wednesday evening the Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call regarding the welfare of two individuals at a residence in rural Akron. Deputies arrived and discovered that the two individuals were deceased. It was also determined that the manner of death was suspicious. Along with the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, investigators and officers from the Woodbury County Sheriff’s, Division of Criminal Investigation, Iowa State Patrol, Plymouth County Medical Examiner’s U-S Marshal’s Service and local police departments are assisting in the investigation. The Iowa DCI crime lab has been requested and will be arriving Thursday to process the scene of the deaths. The deceased bodies will be transported to the Iowa Medical Examiner in Ankeny to assist in determining the manner and cause of death.
Buena Vista Authorities Investigate Stabbing
(Storm Lake) — Buena Vista County authorities are investigating a stabbing incident that happened Wednesday evening. At about 7:46 p.m. the Buena Vista County 9-1-1 Center was contacted by the Spencer Police Department. Spencer Police reported that Clay County Sheriff Deputies, had responded to an accident on Highway 71 south of Spencer. While investigating this accident, deputies discovered a passenger in the vehicle was suffering from multiple stab wounds, and was being taken to the Spencer Hospital. The victim identified as Chayton Quail, age 19, from Spencer was transported by ambulance to Spencer and was later transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital for surgery. Further investigation revealed that the stabbing incident had occurred at 310 Thomas St., Sioux Rapids. Buena Vista County deputies and the Sioux Rapids Police Department responded to the residence and determined that there were no more injured parties at the residence. Preliminary investigation indicates that an altercation occurred between the victim and another male suspect at the residence. The suspect in this incident was gone from the scene upon the arrival of officers. Upon further investigation a charge of willful injury, a class C felony was filed against Pedro Orozco, age 43, of Sioux Rapids. Information early this morning led to the arrest of Orozco by the Osceloa County Sheriff’s Office. Orozco is being held on bond and will be transferred back to Buena Vista County. The investigation is continuing with interviews of witnesses and a search of the crime scene to be conducted. The condition of the victim in unknown.
Man Sought In Woman’s Death
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) – Authorities are still looking for a man they want to question about a death in Linn County.
They say a woman found dead Wednesday morning in the middle of a road near Walker was the mother of three girls who were the subject of an Amber Alert later in the day. The girls were found safe in the Waterloo area about an hour after the alert was issued.
No charges have been filed. Authorities say the man they’re seeking may have additional information about the case.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says it has tentatively identified the woman and her death is considered suspicious.
Investigators are waiting for results from an autopsy.
Public Asked To Help Identify Body Found In Missouri River
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Authorities in southwest Iowa are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man whose body was pulled from the Missouri River on July 1.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Mills County Sheriff’s office say the body was located near Lincoln’s Landing campground near the Plattsmouth Bridge in southern Mills County.
The body has a Playboy bunny tattoo on the upper left part of the chest and a monochromatic tattoo of two unclothed Asian women with a dragon in the background located on the upper left arm. A tribal tattoo is on the right shin. The clothing is described as blue denim shorts, a brown belt and black Ocean Pacific shoes.
Anyone recognizing the individual is asked to call the Mills County sheriff or the DCI.
Appel Able To Raise $750,000
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Democrat Staci Appel says she has more than $725,000 in the bank for her run in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District.
Appel’s campaign reported Thursday that the former state lawmaker raised more than $425,000 during the 2nd quarter of the year, which ended June 30. In total, she has more than $725,000 on hand for her bid to replace retiring Republican congressman Tom Latham.
Appel ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. She will face Republican David Young, a former chief of staff for Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, in the general election.
Young’s spokesman said Thursday that the campaign did not yet have any financial figures to release. Reports are due Tuesday to the Federal Election Commission.
The 3rd District covers much of southwest Iowa, stretching from Des Moines to Council Bluffs.
