Texas Oil Company Proposes Pipeline To Go Through Iowa
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – A Texas company wants to run through Iowa a pipeline that would carry crude oil from North Dakota’s Bakken oil fields to Illinois.
The underground route through Iowa would begin in Lyon County and slice southeast through 15 other counties and exit at Lee County.
Energy Transfer Partners LP, of Dallas, is proposing the pipeline, which would carry at least 320,000 barrels of crude a day and end in Patoka, Illinois. Energy Transfer Partners says there would be railroad access from Patoka to several markets.
The project faces Iowa regulatory reviews from the Utilities Board and the Department of Natural Resources. The company wants to begin operation of the pipeline by the end of 2016.
Construction Begins On Jefferson Casino
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Construction equipment has begun dirt work on the recently approved casino in Jefferson but local and state officials are gathering to turn a few spades of dirt themselves in the ceremonial groundbreaking celebration to officially kick off the project.
The Wild Rose Jefferson casino project was awarded a gambling license on June 12 by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
The $40 million project including an events center, sports bar, restaurants, and an Iowa store will add 275 jobs. A 71-room hotel also will be built.
The casino is going up at the intersection of U.S. Highway 30 and Iowa Highway 4 in Jefferson. It is scheduled to open for business late next summer.
Iowa Rep. Chip Baltimore, a Boone Republican, is among the speakers at Thursday afternoon’s groundbreaking ceremony.
Former Business Manager Accused Of Theft
WELLMAN, Iowa (AP) – A former business manager for an eastern Iowa school district has been accused of stealing about $8,000 through an employee credit card.
The Mid-Prairie School District says Cindy Steege, of North Liberty, faces second-degree theft charges in connection to unauthorized charges on the card. Court records do not list an attorney.
Steege made a court appearance Wednesday in Washington County Court. She was released on her own recognizance.
School officials say they contacted authorities in late June after finding possible financial irregularities and conducting an internal investigation.
The state auditor’s office is investigating the case, as well as Steege’s involvement as a business manager for another school district.

Boy Steals County Owned Pickup Truck
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – A boy who ran away from a Dubuque juvenile facility has been hospitalized after he stole a county road department pickup and crashed it into a utility pole.
The boy left Hillcrest Family Services and took the truck shortly after noon on Wednesday. Police say the boy, whose age was not immediately released, had minor injuries. The Associated Press does not name juveniles accused of a crime. Police say multiple charges are likely to be filed.
The crash shut down a portion of a busy road for about three hours as police investigated, causing traffic to back up.
Police were looking for the boy when several calls were made from the public about a reckless driver in a truck.
