Authorities Catch 16 Year Old Thought To Have Made Threats

(Sioux City) — Woodbury County authorities say they placed four schools on lockdown as they searched for a 16 year old male student who they believed brought a gun to school earlier in the week and made threats. The Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office was able to locate and apprehend Matthew Maxwell, age 16, from the Moville, Iowa area. Matthew was a person of interest and at the center of an investigation. Siouxland Community Christian School, Lawton-Bronson Community School, and Woodbury Central Community School implemented their lockdown early in the morning, as a result of threats thought to be made by Matthew Maxwell.  The latest school to go into lockdown mode was Kingsley-Pierson.  School superintendent Scott Bailey confirmed with KLEM news the school went into lockdown in early afternoon.  Each of the four schools say it was a  precautionary measure while the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office and the Sioux City Police Department conducted an investigation into the reported threats. The lockdown of all four schools was to ensure the safety and security of the students and the staff at those schools. Law enforcement officials were on-scene at all four schools.  Plymouth County Sheriff Mike Van Otterloo told KLEM news that his staff was not involved with the search for the 16 year old subject, but were ready to respond if requested by Woodbury County authorities.
