Wal-mart Robbery Suspect Arrested In Texas
(Le Mars) — The man suspected of robbing the Le Mars Wal-mart store on August 28th is in custody. On October 30th, the Le Mars Police Department was notified by the Hillsboro, Texas police department that a suspect that matched the description was also suspected of robbing two Texas Wal-mart stores. The suspect is identified as 25 year old Christopher Hinnenkamp of San Marcos, Texas. Hinnenkamp was arrested after an attempted robbery of a Greenville, Texas Wal-mart store, and the robbery of the Hillsboro, Texas Wal-mart store. Texas police officers were able to apprehend Hinnenkamp after a short foot pursuit. Hinnenkamp has been identified as a Wal-mart Loss Prevention employee from Texas who had been on a trip home after visiting relatives in Minnesota. Charges have been filed in Plymouth County charging Hinnenkamp with robbery in the 1st degree, a class B felony. The investigation is continuing.
Primebank Donates To Gehlen And Le Mars Community Elementary Schools
(Le Mars) — Primebank President and CEO, Matt Ahlers; Assistant Cashier, Kelli Langel; and Senior Vice President, Kim Clarey recently presented checks to elementary school principals Lorie Nussbaum of Gehlen Catholic, and to Floyd Athay and Scott Parry of Le Mars Community school district. During Homecoming weeks for Gehlen Catholic and Le Mars Community schools, staff of Primebank were invited to participate in a “Jeans Day” fundraiser with donations designated to assist schools and teachers in the purchase of elementary school supplies.
In discussing Primebank’s fundraiser, Ahlers commented that, “Sometimes it’s the little things that have the biggest impact on a student’s educational experience. Primebank and the Primebank staff are pleased to be able to assist our elementary schools and teachers in providing for the special, unbudgeted needs. It is our hope that the funds raised will make the educational experiences of the elementary school students in Le Mars even more rewarding.”
Anderson Comments On Election Results — No Change In State Senate
(Sioux City) — With all the changes from last evening’s election, the one thing that did not change was the Iowa State Senate. Prior to the election, the divide was 26 Democrats and 24 Republicans. Following last night’s election results, the division remains the same with 26 Democrats and 24 Republicans. Republican State Senator Bill Anderson was able to be re-elected. He says he was hoping the elections would have placed him on the majority side of the aisle.

Since the state House and the State Senate are virtually the same as they were prior to the election, does Anderson anticipate the gridlock to continue? He says he does believe emphasis will be placed on the state’s budget with making certain one-time money is not trying to finance on-going projects. Anderson says he thinks Iowa’s infrastructure will be a focus in the next legislative session.

Clovis Looks Ahead Following Political Defeat
(Sioux City) — Plymouth County’s own candidate Sam Clovis of Hinton who ran for the state Treasurer’s position won his home county, but lost the statewide election to Democrat Michael Fitzgerald. Clovis says despite losing, he says it was a great night for the Republican party. He says the goal for the Iowa Republican party was to make certain Iowa was able to contribute a Republican Senate seat that would help place the Republicans in the majority party for the U-S Senate.

Le Mars Fire Department Responds To Corn Field Fire
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department was called to a corn field that started on fire Tuesday afternoon. The fire happened at about 2:30 p.m. and was located near the Hickory Avenue and 200th Street junction, near County road C-38. Fortunately, the burned area was confined to a couple of acres that had already been harvested, and the northwest winds also served to assist fire fighters as it kept the fire from spreading into the standing corn. Merrill Fire Department assisted at the scene with their pickup truck grass rig. The fire was quickly brought under control within 15 minutes. It is thought the fire was started by the farmer’s combine harvester, although there was no damage to the combine harvester. Tires on an empty wagon did sustain some damage as a result of the fire.
