Pick Up Truck Rolls Into Soybean Field

(Le Mars) — The Iowa Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle accident that happened Sunday afternoon shortly after 3:00 p.m. on County road C-38 near Lake Avenue.  A pick-up truck was heading east bound when the driver lost control, and the pick-up truck went down a steep embankment entering the north ditch.  The pickup truck rolled a couple of times and ending up in a soybean field.  The injured driver was transported by the Le Mars Ambulance to the Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.  No name has been released as of yet for the driver of the accident.  The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department along with the Le Mars Police and Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident.

 

 

Round Barn Educational Agricultural Display Ready For The Fair

(Le Mars) — Preparations are being made for the opening of the educational agriculture exhibit “A Round the Farm in the Barn” to be located in the famous round barn at the Plymouth County Fairgrounds.  This marks the second year the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce Ag Committee has hosted the exhibit.  Paul Jacobson serves as the Chamber’s Agriculture Committee chairman, and says the purpose of the exhibit is to highlight the importance of Plymouth County agriculture.

Jacobson says one reason why the exhibit will feature the importance of soil and water conservation is because the topic of nitrate run-off has been in the news.

Last year was the inaugural year for the Round Barn to feature an agricultural education exhibit, and Jacobson says the Chamber Agriculture Committee, along with the Plymouth County Fair Board had received numerous positive comments.  Jacobson believes people that plan to visit this year’s display will be equally impressed.

Jacobson says for three days of the fair, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an educational, but fun game, called Commodity Carnival.  As Jacobson explains, Commodity Carnival looks at risk management and futures trading.

Jacobson says the Plymouth County Fair is one of only 14 fairs in Iowa to feature the Commodity Carnival risk management educational game.  The Chamber Ag Committee chair wants to remind the community that on Tuesday morning, the Round Barn will serve as the site for the weekly Chamber coffee.

Joy Hollow Log Cabin To Be Placed On Foundation

(Le Mars) — After a long wait, officials with the Plymouth County Historical Museum, are announcing the Joy Hollow log cabin will be lowered on to its foundation this coming Tuesday morning.  The cabin has been sitting on blocks and jacks since it was moved from the Plymouth County fair grounds on June 5th.  Judy Bowman, museum administrator, says the process is scheduled to begin at around 9:00 a.m.

 

 

 

 

Pioneer Avenue To Be Closed For Culvert Repair

(Le Mars)– The Plymouth County Secondary Roads Department has announced that Pioneer Avenue will be closed between county road C-44 and 260th street.  The closure will start today and will continue through August 21st.  Road crews are replacing a bridge with a culvert.

 

 

 

 

Auditions For Next Community Play Scheduled

(Le Mars) — Auditions for “Wait Until Dark” are scheduled for Monday, August 10th and Tuesday, August 11th beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Le Mars Community Postal Playhouse.  Performance dates are scheduled for October 22 through 25 and October 29 – 31.  The story involves a setting in 1944 Greenwich Village.  Susan Hendrix, a blind yet capable woman, is imperiled by a trio of men in her own apartment.  As the climax builds, Susan discovers that her blindness just might be the key to her escape, but she and her tormentors must wait until dark to play out this classic thriller’s chilling conclusion.  The cast calls for four men, one woman, and one girl between 10 and 14.  For more information, contact the director, Richard Buman at (712) 204-4245.
