(DES MOINES) — University of Iowa recruit, Luke Harvey, threw a five-hit shutout and struck out ten to pitch number-four Waterloo Columbus to a 3-0 win over number-seven Hinton Monday evening in the 2A quarterfinals of the State baseball tournament at Principal Park. Francis Hart snapped a scoreless tie with a two-run double in the fourth inning before Henry Dropps blooped a single just over the head Hinton second baseman Joel Kirwan to score Hart from second base. The Blackhawks threatened in the seventh with runners on first and second with two outs before Harvey got Skyler Beller to line out to center to end the game and Hinton’s season. The Blackhawks posed scoring threats in each of the first three innings but each time Harvey was able to get outs when he needed them. Collin Jurgensmeier started for Hinton and worked the first four innings before Jay Small finished with two perfect innings of relief. Hinton finishes the season at 26-and-6 and loses only Logan Jurgensmeier to graduation.
