Le Mars Retail Stores Participate In “Black Friday” Sales

(Le Mars) — Le Mars retailers got into the spirit of “Black Friday” by opening early and offering customers discounts and sales for merchandise.  Both the “Bad Habit Boutique” and “Joba’s” opened for business beginning at 6:00 a.m.  Kelly De Rocher of Bad Habit Boutique says customers took advantage of the early morning sales.  She explains what has been the popular items that sold this morning.

De Rocher says Black Friday has been a busy day for her store.  Saturday is known as Small Business Saturday, a time when small businesses entice the shopper to visit small businesses following the large box stores from Black Friday.  De Rocher believes business will also be brisk on Saturday.

Kibby believes sales receipts from today’s Black Friday are comparable to those from a year ago sales.

Frosty-Cross Bicycle Races Scheduled For The Weekend

(Le Mars) — Most people probably don’t think about riding a bicycle in snow and ice over an obstacle course, but that is exactly what will take place this weekend at the Municipal Park of Le Mars.  Mark Strub says the “ice cream capital of the world” will host the annual “Frosty Cross”.  He says the event has grown during the past few years and is attracting bicycle riders from all across the Midwest.

Strub says the course will be open this evening for anyone locally who wants to try the winter bicycle event.

Strub says spectators are encouraged to attend the event and cheer on the cyclists. He says the snow and ice from Thanksgiving will add another dimension to the races.

The organizer of the event says the “Frosty-cross” races will feature categories for the beginner all the way up to the advanced level.  He says the races begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, and at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.

The Bike Central owner says Le Mars is fast becoming known as a “bicycle town”, especially when you consider the number of people that ride the recreational trails, and participate on the Tuesday evening bicycle rides, hosted by the local bicycle shop.  Strub says Cycle-cross is another way Le Mars is spreading the word, showing others about the community’s interest in bicycle riding.

Museum Offers Many Weekend Events

(Le Mars) — If you are wondering about what you might do this weekend since the children are home for the extended holiday weekend and not in school, how about visiting the Plymouth County Historical Museum?  The Floyd Valley model railroad club is holding its Christmas open house on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the basement of the museum.  The club is having a free raffle for a “ready to run” train set, plus they will be selling and giving away many model railroad items.  Also at the museum, is the “Museum Manger”.  The exhibit featuring several nativity scenes, and decorated Christmas trees, will open this afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

 

 

 

Fire At Target Store Interrupts Holiday Shopping

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – A fire interrupted holiday shopping at a West Des Moines Target on Thanksgiving night.
Greg Jones, deputy chief of the West Des Moines Fire Department, says  that the fire was near a fryer. He said the building was evacuated at around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
No injuries were reported and the damage to the store was minimal. Jones said that employees had mostly extinguished the fire by the time crews arrived. 
Store executive team leader Tracy Page said the store was set to open at 4 a.m. on Friday. The perishables department will be closed.
