Brown Family Opens New Music Theater

Brown Musical Family Has Ribbon Cutting Ceremony For New Theater

(Le Mars) — A long awaited dream has become reality today for the local musical group “The Browns” as they opened their new renovated and remodeled theater to the general public.  Ribbon cutting ceremonies were held this morning, and nearly a hundred people came for the Chamber coffee to get a glimpse of the new musical theater.  Shelly Brown says for several years she had looked at various vacant buildings wondering to herself whether the musical group could create a theater for Le Mars.

Shelly Brown says several friends had encouraged them to step out of the norm, and try different things.  She says it was through a set of special circumstances that they were able to get an old bank building that most recently served as an attorney’s office.

The new theater sets at 11 Central Avenue northwest, or at the corner of Plymouth Street and Central Avenue.  During the past six months, the musical family have been busy making renovations to the former bank building.  Shelly says they kept the original marble walls, and decorative stenciling, and added chandelier lighting.

The “Century Theater” seats 150 people and the first concert is scheduled for this evening.  Brown says she isn’t nervous about this evening’s performance, only excited.

Brown says she has been overwhelmed by the community support of their theater project, and of the turnout for the Chamber coffee open house and ribbon-cutting.

The Browns have scheduled a total of eight different Christmas concerts this week, with most of them having been sold out, or nearly sold out.
Shelly Brown hopes that their family musical theater will result in other businesses and restaurants getting started in Le Mars.  She summarizes her thoughts about the upcoming concerts.
