Three Out-of-state People Arrested For Drug Possession Charges
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Police Department, with assistance from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office and K-9 unit, have arrested three out-of-state individuals for possession of various drug charges. The arrest was made Sunday afternoon at about 2:14 p.m. when a Le Mars Police officer noticed a car was speeding on the Highway 75 by-pass. He then proceeded with a traffic stop. As the officer was talking to the driver, he noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The occupants admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the day. As a result of a subsequent investigation, two pounds of methamphetamine and a pound of cocaine, along with a small amount of heroin, and a small amount of marijuana and two hand guns were located inside the vehicle. Arrested were 21 year old Terrell Armstrong of South St. Paul, Minnesota, and 23 year old male Semaj Wells and 19 year old female Jonete Buchanan, both from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Armstrong was charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession with intent to deliver heroin and three counts of drug tax stamp violations. Armstrong was also charged as a felon in possession of a fire arm. Wells and Buchanan were each charged with the same drug possession offenses. All three subjects were taken to the Plymouth County Jail and booked in on those charges. Each are being held on a $50,000 bond.
Crash Victims Identified From Friday’s Fatal Interstate Highway Roll-over Accident
(Cherokee) — The names of that fatal traffic accident that happened on Friday afternoon on Interstate 29 near the Salix exit have now been released by the Iowa State Patrol. You may recall a S-U-V was traveling northbound on the interstate highway when it had lost a rear wheel. Consequently, the vehicle crossed the median and flipped on its top in the southbound lanes of traffic. Killed in that accident was a 27 year old female, Breanna Oliver of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Oliver was partially ejected from the vehicle. Two other people, 24 year old Steffen Oliver, the driver of the vehicle, and passenger 42 year old Sharon Hicks-Whetstine, both from Grand Forks, North Dakota, were seriously injured and transported to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Hinton School To Hold Public Forum On Proposed Wrestling/Weight/Activity Facility
(Hinton) — Hinton Community School District will hold an open public forum this evening to gather comments regarding the new proposed community wellness center. School superintendent Pete Stuerman describes the project.

Bids have yet to be submitted, but costs estimates for the expansion project are at $1.3 million dollars. Unlike other schools, Stuerman says Hinton will not need to hold a bond issue.

The new building will sit approximately 100 feet south of the present high school building. Stuerman believes the people around Hinton are supportive of the proposed facility, and he says the building will be utilized by the entire Hinton community.

Sioux City Gospel Mission To Offer Housing For Homeless Single Dads With Children
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – A nondenominational Christian nonprofit agency is opening a shelter in Sioux City for homeless, single fathers and their children.
The Gospel Mission began construction on the $600,000 facility in the fall of 2015. The apartments are scheduled to open later this month.
Gospel Mission will give families food and resources to find daycare and work. The apartments include various kitchen appliances, a laundry machine, a living area with a TV and bunkbeds. Residents will be allowed to stay for six months, with the end goal of getting the family back on its feet.
Gospel mission already has a shelter for single women with children. A dedication and open house for the new shelter is scheduled for April 17.
Mason City To Hold Nursing Home Justice Task Force To Combat Neglect
MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) – The northern half of Iowa has been selected as a site for one of 10 regional elder justice task forces to combat nursing home neglect.
The regional teams will include federal, state and local prosecutors, law enforcement and other agencies to coordinate efforts against nursing homes that provide grossly substandard care.
The Northern District of Iowa consists of 52 counties in the northern half of the state.
