Secondary Road Department Closes 160th Street For Railroad Crossing Repairs
(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Secondary Roads Department has announced the closing of 160th Street between Highway 60 and Mahogany Avenue. That stretch of road will be closed to allow the Union Pacific railroad to perform maintenance work on the railroad crossing. It is expected the railroad crossing work will be finished by late Saturday afternoon.
Police Investigate Car Hitting House Accident
(Le Mars) — Le Mars Police are investigating an early-morning accident involving a car that had hit a house. The accident occurred Friday morning at about 1:45 a.m. The accident happened at 600 3rd street southeast when a car had hit a house. The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department, the Le Mars Ambulance, and the Le Mars Police all responded to the scene. No additional information about the accident is known at this time.
Le Mars Police Release Information Regarding Two Separate Collision Accidents
(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Police Department has released information regarding two separate vehicle accidents. The first accident happened on Wednesday at about 4:56 p.m. at the intersection of 4th Street 5th Avenue northwest. 80 year old John Van Wyk was traveling northbound on 5th Avenue when 34 year old Darrick Toel of Le Mars had stopped for a stop sign, on 4th Street northwest, but then proceeded to cross the intersection, failing to see the Van Wyk vehicle. As a result, the Toel vehicle collided with the front end of the Van Wyk’s vehicle causing approximately $2000 damage. Toel’s vehicle sustained about $500 damage. There were no injuries, but Toel was issued a citation for failure to obey the stop sign.
(Le Mars) — The second accident was a rear-end collision that happened at about noon on Thursday on 5th Avenue southwest. 32 year old Jordan Dowson of Alton was heading southbound on 5th Avenue southwest. Following Dowson was 36 year old Anthony Curtis of Le Mars. Curtis struck the Dowson vehicle. The Dowson’s vehicle sustained about $2500 in damage and the Curtis vehicle sustained approximately $3000 in damages. Curtis was given a citation for speeding and failure to stop in a safe and sure distance.
