Bibler Pleads Not Guilty To Fatally Stabbing Sister

(Le Mars) — The man accused of stabbing his sister to death has pleaded not
guilty. Thomas Bibler of Le Mars did not appear in court, but instead sent a
written arraignment statement. Bibler is being held in Plymouth County jail for
the June fatal stabbing of 27 year old Shannon Bogh.

Supervisors To Meet Today

(Le Mars) — Plymouth County Board of Supervisors will convene today at the county
courthouse boardroom beginning at 9:30 a.m. The county governing board have a
light agenda before them. County engineer Tom Rohe will appear to offer another
road construction update.

 

City Council To Hold Two Hearings

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars City Council will meet at noon today at the council
chambers. The council will hold two separate public hearings. The first deals
with a proposal from Avery Outdoor Advertising to erect two additional billboards
along Highway 75, the first to be placed on the south end of town near the junction
of county road C-38 and Highway 75, and the second to be placed on the north end of
town. The second public hearing will be to implement a vacate easement with the Le
Mars Business Park second addition. The city council will hear an update from Mike
Donlin, the president of the Le Mars Area Business Foundation. As for action
items, the city council will decide upon an alley paving request, and it is
expected the city council will award a contract to the construction company that
will perform the Business Highway 75 overlay project.

 

City To Close 15th Street Southwest

(Le Mars) — City officials have announced they intend to close 15th Street
Southwest beginning today between 4th Avenue Southwest and 6th Avenue Southwest.
The street will be closed for an anticipated period of ten days for various
repairs. Homeowners that live on 15th St. will still be able to access some of
their driveways that are not affected by the street repair.

 

Fire Department Issues July Monthly Report

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department responded to a total of 45
calls during the month of July. There were 16 fires, seven rescues, eleven
investigations, and eleven requests for services. Fire Chief Dave Schipper reports
fire fighters donated 128 hours of service at the Plymouth County Fair.

Le Mars Police Department To Hold National Night Out Event

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Police Department will be holding an open house tomorrow
evening in recognition of National Night Out crime and drug prevention. Le Mars
Police Chief Stuart Dekkenga says the public is invited to police headquarters
between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.

This marks the second year the Le Mars Police Department have invited the public
for the National Night Out event. Dekkenga says it was successful last year, which
is what prompted the police to again offer the special event.

National Night Out started 33 years ago, and Dekkenga says when Le Mars joined the
organization, the Le Mars Police Department encouraged neighborhood block parties.

The Le Mars Police Chief says he knows of at least four scheduled block parties for
Tuesday evening. Dekkenga says whether it be through the block parties, or the
special event at the police station, it serves as a nice way for the community to
get to know their police officers.

Dekkenga details what the public will see during the special event scheduled for
the police station.

The Le Mars Police Station is located at 22 2nd Street northeast.

 

Fair Auction Brings Nearly $33,000

(Le Mars) — Just a few notes to wrap up the Plymouth County Fair, the annual
auction that was held on Sunday afternoon brought a total of $32,900. The number
one pewter commemorative 75th anniversary belt buckle sold for $300, and the
colored commemorative 75th anniversay belt buckle sold for $850. The ceramic round
barns sold for $150 and $250. The 75th anniversary painted milk can sold for $550
and the 75th anniversary lawn rock sold for $475. This year’s 75th anniversary
quilt entitled “sunrise scraps” was a king size quilt and was created by Jeri
Dreckman sold for $4,400. The first Plymouth county fair toy truck sold for $925,
and the commemorative pedal tractors sold for $3900 for the John Deere and $900 for
the Case-IH pedal tractor. The 75th Anniversary wood carving created by A.J.Luter
sold for $3,000.

Plymouth County Republicans Release Straw Poll Results

(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Republican party held its annual straw poll at the
Plymouth County Fair. The question this year was: What is the single biggest issue facing the country this election?
288 votes were cast. The top 3 issues were Defeating ISIS/Terrorism (29%), Border
Security (16%), and Repealing Obamacare (15%).
“We had a lot of people stop and talk to us about the need to stop the rampant
corruption in Washington” said county co-chair Karl Stodden. “Stopping insiders
getting away with things that would send any one of us to jail are bringing people
out who have never voted before.”
