No Contractors Bid On Proposed Overlay Project

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars City Council was hoping yesterday to award a contract to a construction company for the overlaying of Business Highway 75. The city council had wanted the project to be started yet this summer or at the start of autumn. However, there were no contractors that submitted bids for the estimated $1.6 million project. City Administrator Scott Langel says one reason for no contractor bids is because many of the contractors are already committed to other projects.

The city administrator says there were contractors that did show interest in the project.

Langel says more contractors may try to bid on the project if offered at a different time of year.

Langel says another major reason why contractors may have passed on the proposed project is the time of year, worrying that the project may not be completed before frost sets in.

Langel discusses the city’s options, now that there were no bidders for the overlaying project.
