Sioux County Responds To Friday Morning Burglary 

On Friday, September 2, the 6:34 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office
investigated a report of burglary and theft that occurred at Sioux Feeds, 4195 Highway 75, one mile south of Sioux Center, IA.

On September 2, sometime after 2:00 a.m., perpetrator(s) entered the business, stole cash and a black and beige 1999 Dodge Ram pickup with Iowa license plates BTA287 that was parked outside of the business.

If you have information about this crime or have seen the stolen vehicle you are
asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

 

Iowa Telephone Exchanges Sold For Over Twenty-Million Dollars

The sale of eleven Iowa telephone exchanges by the Consolidated Communications Holdings, Incorporated of Illinois is final. Consolidated officials announced on Thursday, that they have completed the sale of the Heartland Telecommunications Company of Iowa subsidiary to Mutual Telephone Company of Sioux Center, also known as Premier Communications; and Winnebago Cooperative Telecom Association of Winnebago. Premier acquired the Iowa exchanges of: Akron, Boyden, Doon, Hawarden, Hull, Ireton, Rock Rapids, Rock Valley and Sibley. Winnebago acquired the Iowa exchanges of Bancroft and Lakota. The sale was an all-cash transaction valued at approximately 20-point-nine million dollars.

 

Crop Development In Iowa Ahead Of Normal  

More than 80 percent of the state’s corn and soybean fields were rated in “good”
or “excellent” condition at the start of this week and one weather experts says
the 2016 growing season “has turned out pretty well” for Iowa farmers. State
Climatologist Harry Hillaker (HILL-uh-ker) says crop development is about a week
to a week-and-a-half ahead of normal.


Yield prospects are “looking quite good” for most of the state, according to
Hillaker.


A small area stretching from Onawa to just northwest of Sac City got NO rainfall
at all last week, while nearly nine inches fell near Decorah. About nine-tenths of
an inch is the normal amount of rainfall in Iowa for the final week of August.

Iowa Cops Climb Atop Donut Shops To Raise Money And Awareness 

Law officers across Iowa will be poking fun at themselves and helping to raise
money and awareness for charity late next week. An event called “Cop on a Rooftop”
is being held at donut shops all over the state on Friday, September 9th, to
benefit Special Olympics Iowa. Agency spokeswoman Stephanie Kocer (COACH-er)
explains the simple premise.


This is only the second annual effort and she says it’s grown considerably from
last year.


Last year, the Law Enforcement Torch Run worked with more than 750 law enforcement
officers to raise more than $875,000 for Iowa’s Special Olympians. Learn more at:
