Dean Foods Has Semi Truck And Trailer Overturn

(Le Mars) — Shortly after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department was called to Dean Foods on Lincoln Avenue and 12th Street SW where a semi truck and trailer had overturned, spilling some fluids. The Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene with their Hazardous Materials trailer. Unofficially, it appears the truck that is used to help shuttle the refrigerated trailers from the lot to the loading dock made too sharp of a turn, causing the trailer to shift its load and overturn on its side. The overturned trailer caused the shuttle truck to be on its back axle with the cab sticking up in the air, much like when a motorcycle performs a wheelie. It is not known what are the fluids that were leaking from the refrigerated trailer, but one can imagine it may have been dairy products. Fire officials placed a dam on the concrete lot to block the spilled fluids from draining into a ditch and ravine. It did not appear there were any injuries with the incident.
