Reported Reckless Driver Involved With Accident

(Le Mars) — Several 9-1-1 calls were received this morning at around 6:10 a.m. by the Plymouth County and Woodbury County Communications Centers regarding a reckless driver heading northbound on Highway 75 from Sioux City. Initially,
Plymouth County deputies and the Iowa State Patrol were unable to locate the suspect vehicle. However, at approximately 6:25 a.m. a personal injury accident was reported at county road K-22 and 140th street in Plymouth County. When
responding officers arrived at the collision site, the vehicle was identified as the vehicle in question that was called in as the reckless driver. 40 year old Chad Bechtel of Ankeny, Iowa was operating a 2017 Chevy Impala heading northbound on county road K-22. Bechtel crossed the center line striking a 2002
Ford Escape being driven by 51 Maureen Hansen of Rock Valley. The Bechtel vehicle rolled and came to rest on its top on the shoulder of the road. The Hansen vehicle came to rest in a nearby farmyard. Bechtel and Hanson both
refused medical treatment at the scene.  A passenger in the Bechtel vehicle was taken by Akron Ambulance to Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars for a suspected drug overdose. Bechtel was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert from the Le Mars Police Department and subsequently arrested by the Iowa State Patrol for operating while intoxicated and driving left of center. He was booked into the Plymouth County jail. The Iowa State Patrol is conducting the crash investigation with assistance from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office.
Assisting at the scene were the Akron Fire Department and Akron Ambulance and Le Mars Ambulance.

 

 

Woodbury County Authorities Investigate ATV Accident

(Moville) — Woodbury County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an A-T-V accident that happened Monday morning in the 2900 block of county road K-64.
The accident involved a Ford Edge that was traveling southbound on K-64 and the A-T-V was travelling eastbound from a farm drive, crossing K-64. The vehicles collided in the roadway. After contact, the Ford Edge entered the west ditch
and came to a rest in a field. The A-T-V came to rest on the roadway. The operator of the A-T-V was flown by Mercy Air Care to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City for treatment. His condition is not being released at this time.
The driver of the Ford Edge was treated at the scene. Woodbury County Emergency Services, Hornick Fire and Rescue with First Responders, and the Sloan Ambulance all responded to the accident scene and offered assistance. The names of the victims have not been released at this time.

 

Accident Report Released From Wednesday’s Collision

(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office has released information regarding the accident that occurred at about 11:30 a.m. last Wednesday, November 2nd. You may recall the accident involved two vehicles at Highway 75
and C16. Terry Moore, age 66 of Le Mars, IA was operating a 1999 Dodge Durango and was northbound, turning west on C16. Moore was rear ended by Henry Cordell, age 82 of Clearfield, IA who was operating a 2011 F250 pulling a 2000 Kiefer
Stock trailer loaded with hogs. Moore’s vehicle sustained disabling damage of approximately $5,000. Cordell’s vehicle sustained disabling damage to the truck and trailer of approximately $20,000. Moore was transported to Floyd Valley by Le Mars Ambulance with minor injuries. Cordell was uninjured. Cordell was cited for fail to stop in an assured clear distance.

Le Mars Teen Charged With Drug Paraphernalia And Minor In Possession Of Alcohol

(Le Mars) — Last Saturday evening, a Plymouth County Sheriff’s deputy came across a vehicle that was parked on the travel portion of 160th Street and Mahogany Avenue in Le Mars. The Sheriff’s deputy noticed drug paraphernalia and
alcohol inside the car. A subsequent search yielded additional drug paraphernalia along with the beer. 18 year old Silas Buss of Le Mars was ultimately placed under arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia and a minor in possession of alcohol.

 

Plymouth County Authorities Make Drug Related Arrests

(Le Mars) — The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office performed a traffic stop on a vehicle on Granite Avenue near 308th Street, Sunday afternoon at about 12:44 p.m.  As a result of that stop, the driver of the vehicle, Natalie Parsley, age 20 of Sioux City, was placed under arrest for driving with a revoked license and possession of drug paraphernalia.  A passenger, Alexandria Miller, age 19, of Sioux City, was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful possession of a prescription drug.  Both individuals were booked into the Plymouth County Jail.

(Le Mars) — On Thursday, November 3rd the Plymouth County Sheriff’s office also had contact with a vehicle parked on 314th Street.  As a result of that contact, the driver, Autumn Catherine Morey, age 18 of Sioux City, was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.  She was booked into the Plymouth County Jail.

 

Election Officials Refer To Voting Activity As Being “Steady”

(Le Mars) — Today, is of course Election Day, and election officials at the Le Mars Convention Center are calling the voting action as being steady. Iris Hemmingsen is a long-time volunteer for the elections. She comments on the

Iowa State University Extension To Host “Pro-Ag Seminar”

(Le Mars) — Farmers, land-owners, farm managers, and agricultural lenders are among the people urged to attend a Pro Ag seminar scheduled for tomorrow. The session will be held at the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach offices
as part of the Le Mars Convention Center and is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
Gary Wright serves as the Iowa State University Extension farm management specialist for northwest Iowa. He says the seminar will feature three well- known and respected ISU specialists that include: Dr. Alejandro Plastina, Dr. Lee Schulz, and Dr. Chad Hart. Each speaker will present an outlook for the
upcoming year.

Pre-registration is preferred, but Wright says attendees can register at the door.

Wright talks about who should consider attending the annual outlook seminar.

In addition to the Le Mars session, a morning session will take place beginning at 8:30 a.m. and will be held at the Spencer School Administration building.
The Le Mars seminar will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Le Mars Convention Center.

 

Thousands Attend Police Officer’s Funeral In Rockwell City

ROCKWELL CITY, Iowa (AP) – At least 1,000 law enforcement officers and much of the small Iowa community of Rockwell City have gathered to mourn the death of a 24-year-old police officer nearly a week after he and another officer were gunned down in their patrol cars.
Residents and officers packed into a middle school gymnasium Tuesday to remember Justin Martin, a rookie officer in the Des Moines suburb of Urbandale who grew up in Rockwell City.
An Urbandale man is charged with first-degree murder in the Nov. 2 shooting deaths of Martin and 38-year-old Des Moines police Sgt. Anthony Beminio.
Speaking at the service, Urbandale Police Chief Ross McCarty described the “great pain” of Martin’s death, saying the department was “not prepared to have his life stolen from us.”
Le Mars Police Officer Kevin Vander Vegt also attended that funeral.

 

Fort Dodge To Have Air Travel Service To Mpls/St. Paul

FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) – Fort Dodge airport officials are celebrating new flight service to Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Flights from Fort Dodge Regional Airport began on Monday, and it marks the first time the city has had commercial air service to three destinations. A ribbon cutting celebration is scheduled for Tuesday when the first Minneapolis/St. Paul flight of the day is to depart.
For decades, Fort Dodge and the Twin Cities have been linked by Northwest Airlink, Delta Airlines and then Great Lakes Airlines. Great Lakes Airlines suspended service on Feb. 1, 2014, citing a lack of pilots.
Air Choice One now offers several flights to Minneapolis.
