Fire Department Respond To Call At United Methodist Church

(Le Mars) — The Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department responded to an alarm at the United Methodist Church in Le Mars last evening. The alarm came in at about 7:39 p.m. Fire officials determined the cause for the alarm was a pan inside an
oven that was producing smoke. Fire officials ventilated the church of the smoke and within a few minutes people were able to return to the church.

Le Mars Fire Department Respond To Multiple Calls On Tuesday

(Le Mars) — The cliche’ “When it rains it pours” can certainly be attributed to the Le Mars Fire and Rescue Department. You may recall last week on Wednesday, the local fire brigade responded to six calls in one day, with many occurring within minutes of each other. This past Tuesday, the fire department again had to respond to multiple calls, again, with many of them happening within minutes of each other. Fire Chief Dave Schipper says the fire and rescue department responded to five calls within a three-hour time frame.

At 4:50 pm fire fighters investigated a gas odor smell in Apartment #1 at 401 Central Ave. S.W. (Old Feuerstein
funeral home) Finished at 5:05pm.

5:07pm Truck overturned in Dean Foods Truck lot on 12th Street S.W. Load shifted in trailer as shag driver was turning truck around in the parking lot. Firefighters contained milk that spilled from the truck from getting into the waterway. Firefighters assisted a crane and tow company with setting the
tractor and trailer back up and provided scene lighting. Firefighters were on scene for three hours.

5:47pm While at the Dean Foods call firefighters were called to the Pride Home located at 115 6th Ave. S.W. for a fire alarm. Upon arrival firefighters found a water pipe that had ruptured and water ran down through the kitchen floor into
a basement recreation room and set off the fire alarm. The water was shut-off and maintenance came to the scene to take care of the problem.

Firefighters had just finished at Dean Foods at 8:10pm and at 8:12pm were called to the 3000 block of Hwy 3 West (west Le Mars) area for a smell of anhydrous
ammonia. Firefighters located some ammonia nurse tanks just east of the railroad tracks on the south side of Hwy 3. Firefighters put on Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus and protective equipment and checked the tanks. The tanks
were being used in the field earlier and were bled off. The heavy air was holding the vapor cloud of ammonia low to the ground. Firefighters remedied the problem. This was called in by a person driving by on Hwy 3.

At the same time as the ammonia call, 8:12pm the Le Mars Fire-Rescue was called to the intersection of Hwy 3 and Business Hwy 75 for a two vehicle injury accident. Firefighters cleaned up fluids and debris and assisted the injured.

Trial Set For Man Who Hit A School Bus While Driving Drunk

MANCHESTER, Iowa (AP) – A January sentencing has been scheduled for a man accused of being drunk when his vehicle ran into a loaded school bus near Manchester in eastern Iowa.
Court records show 42-year-old Monte Klink pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-offense driving while intoxicated and to two counts of causing serious injury by vehicle. His sentencing date is Jan. 18.
Authorities say Klink failed to yield at an intersection near Manchester on Oct. 1, 2015, and his sport utility vehicle collided with a West Delaware School District bus.
Authorities say all 32 students and the drivers were taken to a hospital. The students ranged from kindergarten through 12th grade. Most suffered minor injuries, and none had life-threatening injuries.
