Cost Of Preparing Thanksgiving Meal Is Reduced

(West Des Moines) — The cost of preparing a traditional Thanksgiving meal has dropped from last year according to a survey sponsored by the American Farm Bureau Federation. Dave Miller is the Director for Research and Commodity
Services for the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. He says the price for the holiday meal for ten people is 24 cents lower this year at $49.87. Miller says the price of the centerpiece entree’ consisting of a turkey is lower this year, which helped bring down the overall cost of the Thanksgiving feast.

Miller says if the consumer prefers to eat a ham for Thanksgiving, instead of the traditional turkey, they will find that to be a bargain.

The Farm Bureau staff economist says there are a good supply of potatoes.  However, sweet potatoes and yams may be slightly higher in price.

Miller offers a report on that other Thanksgiving meal traditional food item…cranberries.
