County Road Crews Get An Early Start On Treating Roads

(Le Mars) — Driving on Iowa’s northwest highways and county roads is still not recommended, although conditions are slowly improving. The latest road report from the Iowa Department of Transportation shows many northwest Iowa highways as
being covered or partially covered with ice. Tom Rohe is the Plymouth County engineer and says his crews got an early start this morning to treat the county paved roadways.

Rohe says bridges and overpasses are especially slick with ice, but he adds that
everything is covered with ice, making for difficult travel conditions.

Plymouth County road crews have made at least two passes over the county paved
roads, and Rohe anticipates they may need to treat the roads later today.

The county engineer says with each passing hour, the roads are showing some improvement.

Rohe says the road crews have focused their attention only to the paved roads, leaving the gravel roads untouched.

City Street Crews Worked On Ice Covered Streets

(Le Mars) — City street crews were also out early this morning to distribute sand and salt on the Le Mars streets. Scott Kneip is the Superintendent for the Le Mars Public Works Department.

Much like the county road crews, the city street workers had to make a couple of passes on the Le Mars city streets.

Kneip says he did not notice any downed tree limbs as a result of the ice.
