Gehlen To Hold “Then Feed Just One” Meal Packaging Event

(Le Mars) — Gehlen Catholic will be hosting the meal packaging program “Then Feed Just One” which is scheduled for today and tomorrow. Today’s meal packaging program will take place late this afternoon from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This marks the 12th year for the meal packaging program held at Gehlen Catholic. Dick Sievert is coordinating the meal program that will benefit the people of Honduras.

Sievert says volunteers for both days are still needed. He says volunteers are welcome, even if they are unable to complete an entire shift.

The “Then Feed Just One” coordinator says by helping with the meals, it will not only make you feel good, but your assistance does make a difference in the lives of poverty-stricken people of Honduras.

Each of the packaged meals is capable of feeding six people. The meals consist of rice, soy protein, dried vegetables, and a vitamin and mineral mixture. Sievert says the long journey begins at a warehouse at Le Mars.

Sievert talks about the logistics needed to transport the meals from Le Mars, to Honduras.

Sievert explains the final portion of the food journey.

Sievert says students from the Gehlen Mission Honduras trip from a few weeks ago, actually got to see a few of the meals that were packed at the Gehlen program from last year. Many of the meals do go to the area familiar to people that have participated in past Mission Honduras and Project Paul missionaries.

Sievert has been to the Central American nation at least 20 different times.  He says it is essential to provide food to the poverty people.

The shifts include: Today (Thursday) from 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday’s shifts begin at 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. From 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon, and from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m.
