COLOR MOM SWEET 5K RUNWALK DETAILS ANNOUNCED

The Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce and the Le Mars YMCA announced that this year’s 5K run/walk will be called “Color Mom Sweet”. The event will be held on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13.

Participating Mothers will be highlighted at the event. Each mom will each receive a sparkly tiara to wear. The event will once again be held at the Le Mars Municipal park and the Willow Creek Golf Course. Zumba will begin the day at 12:30pm, followed by the 5K run/walk at 1:00pm.

New this year will be a “foam pit” at the end of the race. Foam bubble pits are a new trend happening across the nation. There will be multiple machines making huge piles of soapy foam that people can play in if they wish.

Registration to participate is now open at lemarsymca.org.

T-shirts, honoring Moms, will be for sale for $12.00. For more information about the Color Mom Sweet event, call either the Chamber 546-8821 or the YMCA 546-6655.

PARKING AND COMMERCIAL SPACE PROPOSED FOR DOWNTOWN SIOUX CITY

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – Sioux City plans to partner with the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for a project that would bring parking and commercial space to an area of downtown.

The proposed $11 million development would fill an empty 1.2-acre lot that sits just south of the casino. The city purchased the land in 2015 for additional parking for Tyson Events Center functions.

City officials say the project will help meet growing needs at the casino and the city’s Historic Pearl Street District, as well as replace some of the parking spaces lost at the Tyson as part of the Interstate 29 reconstruction project.

City economic development director Marty Dougherty says he expects to bring the issue before the City Council in the next 30 to 60 days.
